The following are skills needed to perform the essential functions of caregiving of this job in the interest of residents/patients. The ability to:
- Coordinate the flow of residents through the dining rooms.
- Greet residents in a timely and orderly fashion.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Servers provide routine services for dining in a manner conducive to the comfort and safety of residents in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations, and are delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties by the Dining Room Manager, Assistant Dining Room Manager, Food and Dining Director or other assigned supervisory personnel to assure that the highest degree of quality resident service can be always maintained.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
The following job functions have been determined to be essential to the position of a Server. Because of fluctuations in workload demands, as well as tasks often overlapping, frequency ranges and percentages vary by assignment, day of week, day, evening or night shift, etc. However, low frequency and percentage or duration of time spent on a particular task may not indicate lack of importance. Spring Haven Senior Living reserves the right to modify this list of essential and other functions as deemed necessary.
- Attend pre-meal service meeting at 10:30am & 3:30pm
- Fold napkins
- Check tables in the station to ensure they are ready for service
- Coordinate with host/hostess to begin seating residents
- Ensure all water pitchers, coffee, ice, soup, lemons and china is available and ready for use during service.
- Follow all facility guidelines regarding serving residents and guest meals.
- If the resident’s concern/problem occurs, apologize to the resident and inform supervisor immediately.
- Use proper lifting techniques at all times
- Pre-bus tables. Place dishes and silverware in dish area.
- Complete closing side duties as assigned.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
- Assist with opening & closing tasks.
As an essential function of the job, the Server is regularly called on to effectively report emergencies such as residents’/patient’s condition changes, as well as accidents and incidents, complaints and grievances by residents/patients and their families, etc. It is determined that a Server has the ability to communicate with others and do not pose a direct threat to the safety or health of self or others.
EDUCATION REQUIRED
In the interest of residents/patients, a Server will have the preferred minimum educational background of having a high school diploma or GED equivalency. Basic 2 years’ experience and knowledge of food service preferred.

Qualifications:

PHYSICAL STRENGTH REQUIRED
A Server must be capable of lifting a minimum of forty pounds.
Spring Haven Senior Living has determined that to perform the essential functions of the job of a Server, that persons must be able to perform the essential physical tasks of lifting trays, delivering food, assisting residents, etc., without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of him/her or others, including residents/patients, co-workers and others.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Except where appropriate and conducive to accomplishing the goals and objectives of a particular task, the Server will work in a well-lighted area that is ventilated and as physically, innocuous as possible under the conditions which exist at a particular time. Because the essential functions of the job of a Server may cause exposure to situations associated with general involvement in a health care facility, including but not limited to exposure to AIDS, HIV, and Hepatitis B viruses, to be qualified for the position of a Server, employees will have the ability to work in the environment conducive to caring for residents without posing a direct threat to self or others.

This job requires the following:

ATTIRE
Servers will follow the dress code of the facility by wearing the appropriate uniform, which includes neat, clean, odor-free grooming.
WORK SCHEDULE
Servers report promptly to the assigned area at the start of each shift.
SUPERVISOR
Servers report to the Dining Room Manager or other people assigned to the supervisory role.
JOB CLASSIFICATION
This position is classified as hourly, non-exempt, and does not qualify for the exemption from minimum wage and overtime pay provided by Section 13(a)(1) of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
