Description

Drug & Alcohol Diversion Specialist

Performs drug and alcohol prevention and intervention services with youth and their families in a community and school-based setting through our Diversion Program. Knowledgeable with group and individual counseling techniques as well as conducting behavioral health (mental health or substance use) assessments and/or screenings. The position requires an individual who possesses competencies that are essential to the effective practice of counseling for psychoactive substance use disorders. The individual needs to become fully proficient in understanding addiction and treatment.
Must be a self-starter capable of working independently, dependable, and working effectively with minimum supervision. Aligned with any school's interests in improving student outcomes, Three Rivers Youth's D&A Diversion Program is designed to support achievement by keeping youth in school.

JOB STATUS: Full-Time Non-Exempt

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
1. Plans, organizes, and facilitates intervention groups/ educational classroom presentations.
2. Provides individual, group, and/or family intervention as needed
3. Consult with School/ Community Partnerships, including attendance at regularly scheduled meetings. Collaborates with school/ community organizations for resources, referrals, and service delivery
4. Provides screening and intake to determine if a further assessment/evaluation is needed
5. Provides referrals for drug and alcohol assessments to determine the appropriate level of care as needed
6. Follow up with the family to confirm access to the appropriate level of care. Upon consent, follow up with the referral source to ensure a smooth transition to intervention/treatment
7. Utilizes effective retention techniques and evidence-based approaches to maintain participation
8. Possesses knowledge of the "psychological and emotional health disorders and their effect on drug and alcohol Treatment (Dual Diagnosis) and utilizes information for services delivered.
9. Maintains confidential participant records and/or data. Prepare written internal and external reports in a timely manner.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Maintains required training hours and clearances.
2. Maintains open communication with supervisor and other staff as it relates to the necessary flow of the job and programs. Aids in the design of educational programs.
3. Continually remains up to date on individual, group, and family counseling techniques and evidence-based approaches. Possesses and utilizes the ability to relate to the problems and special needs of clients.
4. Maintains community resources to make them available to the families.
5. Must possess and utilize excellent verbal and written communication skills and general computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, the Internet, and other systems.
6. Must understand public-school systems, family dynamics, ATOD pharmacology, confidentiality, FERP A and PPR laws and regulations, and DDAP Best Practices Guidelines.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, sit, and walk; use hands; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must be capable of lifting or pulling a minimum of 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust and focus. Proper diction and command of the English language are required. Must be able to exercise independent thinking and good judgment under all circumstances.
 

Qualifications


Master's Degree preferred; Bachelor's Degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, social science, or other related fields required, and a minimum of 3 years of experience working with youth and families, a CADC preferred; Reliable transportation and a valid Pennsylvania driver's license, as well as current PA auto insurance, are required.

All required clearances must be current, including Act 33/34 Child Abuse Clearance, Pennsylvania Criminal History Clearance, and FBI Clearance.
