Overview
Thompson House, a non-profit 43 bed Skilled Nursing facility, 12 bed residential care facility, and education focused organization in Brattleboro, VT is seeking an experienced and dedicated clinical leader. With a mission to serve the kind and kindred needs of the people of Brattleboro, Thompson House is dedicated to serving our community to the fullest.
The Director of Nursing is responsible for oversight of clinical operations- overseeing nurse management, staff nurses, LNA's, MAT's, and agency staff. The DON should have 2 years experience in long term care, have a proven track record as a strong and fair leader, excellent communication skills, the desire to recognize and plan for ongoing clinical improvements, and the ability to support resident quality of life and positive clinical outcomes.
Thompson House has a strong team in place to support the DON, including but not limited to: Full time Administrator, Executive Director, Assistant Director of Nursing, Infection Preventionist/ Staff Educator, Care Coordination & Admissions Nurse, Residential Care Nurse Manager, a skilled MDS consulting team, a talented staff scheduler, HR manager, and a well staffed nursing team with minimal agency use.
Duties
- Oversee the daily operations of the nursing department, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, both nationally and state-wide
- Make regular improvements and work toward a successful annual state survey in SNF and Residential Care
- Oversee, develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for residents, ensuring that their needs are met effectively and consistently
- Lead and mentor nursing staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment that promotes professional growth and development.
- Ensure adherence to HIPAA guidelines
- Ensure adherence to Infection control guidelines
- Oversee assessments of patient health status and coordinate necessary interventions and services
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in nursing care, and state and federal regulations for Skilled nursing and residential care facilities, educating clinical team as well
- Work within set budgetary guidelines while maintaining safe staffing and supply levels
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes and improve overall quality of care with support of Quality Assurance team
- Address any concerns or issues raised by residents or their families regarding care services.
- Work with MDS team to support accurate assessment and record keeping for optimal reimbursement
- Support admissions team in census growth with appropriate resident admissions
- Other tasks as related to nursing services, clinical staffing, or patient experience
Experience
- Proven experience in nursing leadership roles in LTC
- Strong knowledge of nursing practices, resident rights, and regulatory compliance in the State of VT
- Familiarity with hospice care principles
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Proven ability to lead a clinical team through clear expectations, steady involvement, and well thought out and communicated process & procedure leading to longevity in staffing
On-call expectations: The Director of Nursing is on call 1-2 nights per week with a weekend on-call expectation once every 8th week. As the DON, this position may have additional responsibility in the event of the loss of another role.

The salary range for this role is ~$100,000-$130,000 annually based on experience. We also offer a stipend program to support direct care coverage requiring any need for overtime as it may apply.
