Job Description:
The Director of Quality is responsible for leading the company’s quality strategy, programs, and systems to ensure products meet the highest standards of precision, safety, and compliance. This role directs all aspects of quality assurance, control, and compliance functions across the organization — driving alignment with AS9100, NADCAP, and FAA requirements, while promoting a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Lead, manage, and continuously improve the Quality Management System (QMS) to maintain compliance with AS9100, NADCAP, and FAA regulatory standards.
Oversee the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Level 3 processes and certifications, ensuring compliance with customer and industry requirements.
Direct all quality functions, including Quality Engineering, Inspection, Auditing, Supplier Quality, NDT, and Document Control.
Develop and implement company-wide quality objectives, metrics, and performance indicators aligned with corporate goals and customer expectations.
Oversee internal and external audits; ensure timely corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and maintain audit readiness across all business units.
Partner with Operations, Engineering, and Program Management to proactively address quality issues and improve processes that impact product integrity and delivery.
Analyze quality data and trends to identify systemic issues, implement root cause analysis, and drive process improvements across departments.
Manage relationships with key customers, suppliers, and certification bodies to ensure compliance and build confidence in product quality and performance.
Oversee the calibration and maintenance of inspection and test equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
Provide leadership, mentorship, and development opportunities for the quality organization, ensuring strong technical competency and engagement throughout the team.
Champion a company-wide quality culture focused on accountability, precision, and continuous improvement.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
Skills
Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills; able to lead diverse quality and inspection teams across multiple facilities.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
Skilled in audit preparation, customer communication, and regulatory compliance representation.
Proficiency in quality systems software, data analysis tools, and standard Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to translate technical quality requirements into clear operational direction.
Knowledge and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related technical discipline.
Certification as an NDT Level 3 professional with expertise in relevant methods is a plus or preferred (e.g., liquid penetrant and magnetic particle)
Minimum of 10 years of quality management experience in the aerospace or defense manufacturing industry.
Prior experience as a Quality Manager or a similar role within the aerospace industry, preferably in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment
Comprehensive knowledge of AS9100, NADCAP, FAA, and related aerospace quality system requirements.
Deep understanding of precision manufacturing, machining, assembly, and aerospace component inspection.
Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and root cause analysis.
Understanding of supplier quality management and risk-based quality planning.
Proven success leading quality teams and maintaining FAA and NADCAP certifications.
Experience interfacing with FAA representatives, OEMs, and prime aerospace contractors.
Demonstrated track record of implementing effective process and cultural improvements.
