Clinical Registered Dietitian (RDE/RD)


A Clinical Registered Dietitian plays a vital role within the hospital setting, combining clinical expertise with compassionate care to develop individualized, medically appropriate nutrition plans for patients. Their work directly supports healing, recovery, and overall well-being through tailored nutritional strategies and close interdisciplinary collaboration.


This position is based in Hospital, offering an exceptional opportunity for both new and experienced RDEs/RDs to gain exposure to a diverse range of patient populations and acuity levels. From critical care to general medicine, this role provides hands-on experience managing complex clinical cases in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.

Inpatient Clinical Registered Dietitian - Hospital | Location: Chico, CA 95926

Compensation: $38 per hour (wage adjusted for experience, education, and specialty certifications) | Full-Time

Schedule: 4-5 days a week, 8 hours a day

Job Summary

Make a meaningful impact on patient health through expert nutrition care. As an Inpatient Clinical Registered Dietitian, you’ll assess, plan, and implement individualized nutrition interventions that support recovery and improve quality of life. This role will give you the opportunity to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy to patients at all levels of acuity and for a wide variety of disease states in a highly rated 300-bed acute care facility in Chico, CA. The Inpatient Clinical Registered Dietitian conducts nutrition assessments, provides therapeutic diet education, designs and evaluates tube feeding and TPN regimens and participates in departmental quality assurance data collection and practice guidelines development. You’ll collaborate with physicians and care teams, provide evidence-based guidance, and ensure compliance with clinical standards and regulatory requirements. Your expertise will help patients thrive—one meal at a time.

What you'll do

  • Conduct nutrition assessment for patients within required time frames. Obtain timely and appropriate data and analyze/interpret data based on evidence-based standards.
  • The Dietitian will cover Medical, Surgical as well as ICU.
  • Provide appropriate documentation that summarizes the nutrition care plan in the patient's medical record, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and plan/goals. Once implemented, the clinical dietitian will monitor the progress toward goals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary care conferences and discharge planning activities, as appropriate. Work closely with other disciplines including OT, PT, speech, and social services to ensure collaboration of care.
  • Perform nutrition diagnosis after identifying the problem and clarify the cause of the problem with the patient's medical team.
  • Develop, implement, and/or make recommendations for an individualized plan for nutrition intervention, including enteral and parenteral nutrition.
  • Review/approve therapeutic diets to ensure compliance with all state and federal guidelines.
  • Assess and evaluate techniques that consider the varied needs of age-specific populations as well as cultural, religious, and ethnic concerns.
  • Work collaboratively with and provide area supervision of dining service staff to assure accuracy of diet prescriptions and high level of customer satisfaction/scores.
  • Provide appropriate follow-up in accordance with the patient's treatment goals, referring patients for outpatient counseling, community resources or home services, as appropriate. Conduct in-services and educational presentations to hospital/department staff.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping of daily clinical activities, as required.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of new dietitians and DTR’s. Function as a preceptor to dietetic students and interns. Plan learning experiences, teach and evaluate the performance of students and interns.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Clinical Nutrition Manager.

What you will need

  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) certification or RD-Eligible.
  • CDR card
  • ServSafe certification
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
