Robotic Welding Cell Operator — Structural Steel

Step onto the production floor where precision meets power. From the start of your shift, you will prep tooling, load heavy steel members, and bring robotic welding cells and CNC equipment online. Throughout the day, you will move between programming adjustments, in-process inspections, and coordination with welding and quality teams to keep parts flowing and standards high.

What a typical day looks like

• Set up machines, tooling, and robotic programs using production specs, shop drawings, and work orders.
• Load, align, and secure beams, plates, and structural components for automated welding and fabrication.
• Run and monitor robotic welding systems and other automated fabrication equipment for structural beams and components.
• Fabricate beam assemblies, including layout, fit-up, and precise positioning prior to welding.
• Check weld penetration, alignment, and structural integrity; make basic robotic teach adjustments and minor program edits when needed.
• Operate plasma burn tables, plasma cutters, saws, press brakes, drills, and additional CNC and manual machines.
• Measure and verify components with calipers, gauges, and other precision tools to match specifications.
• Inspect finished beams, parts, and welds for dimensional accuracy and quality standards.
• Troubleshoot fabrication, fit-up, or equipment issues; escalate when required.
• Perform routine cleaning, maintenance, and minor troubleshooting on robotic and automated machinery.
• Document production output, scrap, and downtime with accuracy.
• Coordinate closely with welding and quality teams to hit daily and weekly goals.
• Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to produce accurate components.
• Load raw materials correctly, ensure proper alignment, and monitor cutting processes.
• Set up machinery with proper tooling and materials per job specifications.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Training

• Robotics training provided.
• CNC or fabrication experience welcome.

Qualifications

• 2 years operating fabrication equipment; structural steel fabrication and/or robotic welding experience strongly preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Fluent with blueprints, technical drawings, weld symbols, and measuring tools.
• Experience with CNC equipment, automated systems, or beam lines is a plus.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with solid troubleshooting skills.
• Works independently with minimal supervision and collaborates effectively on a team.
• High attention to detail and quality.
• Ability to read, write, and understand basic English and/or Spanish to follow safety guidelines and work instructions.
• Clear communication and good interpersonal skills; reliable, punctual, and strong work ethic.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Working knowledge of structural steel fabrication: beam layout, fit-up, and welding.
• Familiarity with robotic welding systems and automated fabrication workflows.
• Ability to recognize weld defects and fabrication issues and respond appropriately.
• Effective problem-solver in a production setting; able to manage multiple tasks and maintain productivity.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Working conditions

• Manufacturing floor environment with noise, heat, and heavy equipment.
• Regular interaction with robotic welding cells, automated machinery, and large structural steel components.
• Extended hours or overtime may be required based on production needs.

Physical requirements

• Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods.
• Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Work in variable manufacturing conditions (temperature, noise, dust or debris, wet floors).
• Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate equipment and handle materials.
• Ability to safely handle with an overhead crane and work around large steel beams and materials.

Schedule and benefits

• Monday–Friday shifts: 1st (6:00am–2:00pm), 2nd (2:00pm–10:00pm), 3rd (10:00pm–6:00am).
• Some weekends may be required depending on production demands.
