What are the responsibilities and job description for the HVAC Service Technician position at Thermostat Masters Heating & Cooling?
We are looking for a skilled HVAC Service Technician who thrives on problem-solving and technical challenges. Unlike install-heavy roles, this position is 100% focused on diagnostics, maintenance, and repair.
Core Responsibilities
- Diagnostics: Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex issues in residential and light commercial HVAC systems (AC, Furnaces, Heat Pumps, and Mini-splits).
- Maintenance: Perform comprehensive tune-ups and preventative maintenance to ensure peak system efficiency and longevity.
- Technical Communication: Clearly explain technical issues to customers in "plain English," providing honest recommendations and repair vs. replace options.
- Documentation: Maintain digital service records, including parts used, labor hours, and system readings.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and local building codes while maintaining a clean and organized service vehicle.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2–5 years of dedicated HVAC service experience.
- Certifications: EPA Section 608 Universal Certification is required. NATE certification is a major plus.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, electrical schematics, and combustion analysis.
- Tools of the Trade: Proficient with digital manifolds, multimeters, and leak detectors.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional customer service skills and a professional appearance.
- Requirements: A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Why This Role?
- No Heavy Installs: Focus on your craft without the physical toll of constant new construction or full-system change-outs.
- Year-Round Work: Our service department stays busy regardless of the season through robust maintenance contracts.
- Professional Autonomy: Manage your own van and route with the support of a dedicated dispatch team.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and confined spaces (crawlspaces, attics).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and climb ladders.
- Occasional on-call rotation for emergency service requests.
Note to Applicants: We value technical integrity over "hard sales." If you are a technician who takes pride in finding the root cause of a failure rather than just swapping parts, we want to hear from you.
