Responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging curriculum plans tailored to early childhood development standards, including literacy, math, physical education, and social skills.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming classroom environment that encourages exploration and independence.
- Manage daily classroom activities, behavior, and routines to promote positive behavior management and effective classroom management strategies.
- Communicate regularly with parents or guardians about student progress, milestones, and any behavioral or developmental concerns.
- Incorporate specialized educational techniques such as Montessori methods or preschool teaching best practices as appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with mandated reporting laws and child welfare regulations while maintaining confidentiality.
- Conduct assessments using standardized testing tools to monitor developmental progress and tailor instruction accordingly.
- Collaborate with colleagues to plan interdisciplinary lessons that support holistic child development including social-emotional learning.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of early intervention strategies, childhood development principles, and childcare best practices.
- Provide first aid and CPR when necessary, ensuring the safety and well-being of all students at all times.
Requirements
New York State teacher certification in early childhood education or equivalent
- Proven experience working with young children in a preschool or daycare setting with classroom experience in early childhood education.
- Strong knowledge of child development instruction, behavior management techniques, and classroom management strategies.
- Experience developing curriculum content that supports literacy education, math skills, physical education, and overall child welfare.
- Familiarity with special education needs, early intervention programs, and inclusive teaching practices such as Montessori or other preschool methodologies.
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with children, parents, colleagues, and community partners effectively.
- Ability to adhere to mandated reporting laws and maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
- Certification in first aid and CPR is required; additional certifications in childhood development or special education are preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to plan lessons that incorporate standardized testing results and promote holistic child growth.
- Knowledge of preschool teaching standards including toddler care principles and daycare regulations is highly desirable.
