Group Fitness Instructor
The Woodlands at Furman is seeking an energetic, compassionate, and dependable Group Fitness Instructor to lead engaging exercise classes for older adults in our Life Plan Community, including Independent Living, Assisted Living and Memory Care. We are looking for an instructor who enjoys building relationships with residents while creating a welcoming, safe, and motivating exercise environment.
Independent Contractor (1099)
$40 per class. Additional compensation is available for weekend classes.
- 8:00 AM | Beginner Strength: Weekdays, with flexible scheduling options
- 9:00 AM & 10:00 AM | Aquatic Fitness: Mondays & Fridays
- Substitute Opportunities: Teach a variety of formats through flexible morning substitute coverage, including Tai Chi, Aqua Mobility, Aquarobics, Strength & Conditioning, Cardio Drumming, and more.
- Instructors interested in learning new formats are encouraged to apply, with opportunities to train alongside experienced instructors and expand their teaching skills.
- Specialty Class Opportunities: Develop and teach occasional specialty classes on weekday afternoons or regular classes on weekends, based on their expertise and resident interests. Classes may include Line Dancing, Zumba, Pilates, Barre, Functional Fitness, Balance, Dual-Task Training, Aqua Drums, or other wellness-focused programs.
- Lead safe, effective, and engaging group fitness classes for older adults.
- Adapt exercises to accommodate a variety of fitness levels, mobility limitations, and individual needs.
- Arrive early to prepare the exercise space before class and return the space to its original setup afterward.
- Monitor participant safety throughout each session and respond appropriately to concerns.
- Maintain attendance records as requested.
- Communicate professionally with residents and Wellness Department staff.
- Current nationally recognized group fitness certification (ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NASM, YMCA, or equivalent).
- Current CPR/AED certification, or willingness to obtain certification through The Woodlands before beginning employment.
- Experience teaching group fitness classes; experience working with older adults is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
- Passionate about engaging with and enriching the lives of residents across Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care.
- Flexibility to teach a variety of class formats and provide substitute coverage when needed.
- Positive, engaging teaching style with strong interpersonal skills.
