Job Summary

The Behavioral Health Specialist will work on a multidisciplinary team and communicate with internal and external stakeholders such as pediatricians, primary care physicians, nurses, and psychiatrists. The position will serve as a liaison and advocate between providers and behavioral health resources, ensuring that children, adolescents, and their families receive equitable, timely, and holistic care. In addition to providing consultation and referral resources to enrolled CPAN providers, this position may be assisting with program development, marketing of the CPAN program, and provision of training to PCPs on CPAN utilization and child and adolescent behavioral health. Position may also be asked to assist with the development of a resource database for referrals.


Key Responsibilities

  • Efficiently and effectively interact with team members, internal and external partners to accomplish essential tasks.
  • Create and conduct presentations for PCPs on behavioral management of children and adolescents.
  • Competent to provide assessment and referral services to elementary through high school ages.
  • Be effective in documentation procedures.
  • Identify appropriate referral sources in the area of the patient being served.
  • Participate in community outreach activities to raise awareness as needed.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described, such as attending trainings and regular team meetings.
  • Use excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Participate in regular team meetings.
  • Handle confidential and/or sensitive information with discretion and adherence to HIPAA rules.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work.
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, and/or families.


Preferred Education/Experience:

  • 3 year’s experience with youth and families.
  • Database knowledge.


Required/Preferred Certifications / Licenses

  • Licensed in Texas as a Licensed Master Social Worker preferred.


Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

  • Demonstrated knowledge working with deadlines and under pressure and the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills required.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and software systems quickly.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues efficiently.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.

Clinical Position Requirements

Clinical positions require pre-screening through our Occupational Health department, including a drug test. Employees are required to obtain annual influenza vaccines.
