What are the responsibilities and job description for the Orthopedic Charge Entry Specialist position at The TemPositions Group of Companies?
This position works directly under the Coding Manager. Job duties include extensive administrative work within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, posting payments, and other assignments as needed.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Posting payments, adjusting patient accounts, and ensuring a daily balance of all payments.
- Reviewing explanations of benefits to ensure proper payment and adjustment posting.
- Performing additional duties or project work as needed, as assigned by the Coding Manager.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to perform routine mathematical calculations and strong mathematical and accounting skills.
- Ability to post both electronic and manual payments.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA regulations as it pertains to patient information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft suite.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to approach problems/decisions analytically.
- Expert knowledge of insurance payment processing.
- Must be reliable and able to work under periods of high volume and strict deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
- Ability to work as a team player and comfortable asking questions and taking direction from a supervisor and director.
- Solid time management skills and ability to prioritize projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned by their supervisor.
- Orthopedic experience required
Experience/Educational Requirements:
- EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED required, Associate degree or higher preferred.
- EXPERIENCE: Three years of experience with charge entry or an equivalent combination of Three years' experience and education is required. EMR payment posting experience is required.
- CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding required.
- Strong understanding of NCCI edits, modifiers, and payer rules or EPIC required
