The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of law firm and/or in-house experience, exceptional legal judgment, and the ability to translate evolving privacy and AI regulations into practical business solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead the organization's privacy, data protection, and AI compliance initiatives.
- Advise business and product teams on the legal implications of AI-enabled products and services.
- Develop and maintain internal privacy and AI governance policies, procedures, and compliance playbooks.
- Review, draft, and negotiate commercial and vendor agreements with a focus on privacy, security, and data protection provisions.
- Provide legal guidance on consumer privacy laws and industry-specific regulatory requirements.
- Assess data collection, consent, retention, and usage practices across products and platforms.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risks related to emerging technologies.
- Coordinate with outside counsel on complex legal matters while serving as the primary internal privacy resource.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting privacy, AI, and consumer protection laws.
- Support broader commercial and operational legal matters as needed.
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active U.S. bar admission.
- Approximately 7 years of legal experience, with a strong preference for candidates who have law firm experience and exposure to in-house legal environments.
- Significant experience advising on privacy, data protection, technology transactions, or commercial contracting.
- Strong working knowledge of privacy and consumer protection regulations, including:
- GLBA
- FCRA
- CCPA and other U.S. state privacy laws
- TCPA
- DPPA
- COPPA (or similar online privacy regulations)
- Experience advising on AI governance, machine learning, automated decision-making, or emerging technology compliance.
- Demonstrated experience negotiating complex vendor, SaaS, and technology agreements.
- Ability to communicate complex legal concepts to cross-functional business teams.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience supporting product development, engineering, or technology organizations is highly preferred.
- Combination of private practice and in-house legal experience.
- Technology, SaaS, FinTech, financial services, or other highly regulated industry experience.
- Experience developing practical compliance frameworks rather than providing only legal analysis.
- Ability to balance legal risk with business objectives in a fast-paced environment.
