Our client is an innovative, technology-driven organization seeking an experienced Data Privacy & AI Compliance Attorney to join its growing legal team. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic legal professional to lead enterprise-wide privacy, AI governance, and regulatory compliance initiatives while partnering closely with business, product, engineering, and executive leadership.
The ideal candidate combines strong legal expertise with practical business judgment and has experience translating evolving privacy and artificial intelligence regulations into actionable, business-focused solutions. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building compliance programs, negotiating technology agreements, and helping organizations responsibly leverage emerging technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the organization's privacy, data protection, and AI compliance initiatives.
- Serve as the primary legal advisor on privacy, data governance, and AI-related matters across the business.
- Counsel business, product, and engineering teams on the legal implications of AI-enabled products, services, and emerging technologies.
- Develop, implement, and maintain privacy and AI governance policies, procedures, and compliance playbooks.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including vendor, SaaS, and technology contracts, with an emphasis on privacy, security, and data protection provisions.
- Advise on compliance with consumer privacy laws and industry-specific regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate data collection, processing, consent, retention, and data-sharing practices across products and platforms.
- Identify legal and regulatory risks associated with new technologies and collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop practical solutions.
- Coordinate with outside counsel on complex privacy and compliance matters while serving as the organization's primary internal privacy resource.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments related to privacy, artificial intelligence, and consumer protection, and proactively advise stakeholders on potential impacts.
- Support broader commercial and operational legal matters as needed.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
- Approximately 7 years of legal experience, preferably with a combination of law firm and in-house experience.
- Significant experience advising on privacy, data protection, commercial contracting, technology transactions, or related legal matters.
- Strong knowledge of applicable privacy and consumer protection laws, including:
- Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA)
- Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)
- California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and other U.S. state privacy laws
- Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA)
- Driver's Privacy Protection Act (DPPA)
- Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) or comparable online privacy regulations
- Experience advising on AI governance, machine learning, automated decision-making, or emerging technology compliance.
- Demonstrated experience negotiating complex vendor, SaaS, and technology agreements.
- Exceptional drafting, negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong ability to communicate complex legal concepts to cross-functional business teams.
- Experience supporting technology, engineering, or product organizations is highly preferred.
Preferred Experience
- Combination of private practice and in-house legal experience.
- Background supporting technology, SaaS, FinTech, financial services, or other highly regulated industries.
- Experience developing and implementing practical compliance frameworks, policies, and governance programs.
- Ability to balance legal risk with business objectives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Compensation & Benefits
