What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time Daycare Assistant Teacher position at The Sunshine Academy?
Early Childhood Assistant Teacher
The Sunshine Academy · 2837 North Ramshorn Dr., Laurel, MT 59044 · Part-Time · $14–$20/hour
You don’t need a degree to make a difference here. You need to show up and care.
Some of the best teachers we know started out in retail, a restaurant, or raising their younger siblings. If you’re patient, dependable, and good with people, you already have what this job is built on. We’ll teach you the rest.
As a part-time Assistant Teacher at our Ramshorn location in Laurel, you’re a teacher alongside your Lead Teacher. You’re one of the faces children run to and families trust at pickup. You help kids learn to wash their hands, settle a disagreement with a friend, and try new things on their own. Those small moments add up, and they’re a big part of why families feel at peace when they leave their child with us. It’s meaningful work on a schedule that leaves room for the rest of your life.
What your days look like
- Working alongside your Lead Teacher to run a classroom that feels safe, calm, and fun
- Greeting every child and parent by name, with a real hello and goodbye
- Talking with kids through the day to build their vocabulary: “We’re putting on our coats because it’s cold outside.”
- Helping children learn independence: washing hands, toileting, cleaning up, and trying it themselves first
- Guiding kids through big feelings and helping them solve conflicts with their words
- Noticing and praising kids when they’re doing well, not just when they need redirecting
- Supporting lunch, transitions, diapering, and potty training
- Keeping the room clean, organized, and ready for the next activity
- Sending updates and notes to families through Playground
- Watching for safety and keeping ratios where they need to be
Who thrives here
You’re the person your friends and coworkers count on. You show up on time, and when you need a day off, you plan ahead. You stay patient when a toddler is having a hard morning. You’re friendly with parents, keep it professional with your team, and stay out of gossip and drama. You’re willing to learn, and you want a job that means something.
What you’ll need
- 18 years or older
