What are the responsibilities and job description for the Daycare Support Staff position at The Sunshine Academy?
Substitute / Float Support Staff
The Sunshine Academy · 2837 North Ramshorn Dr., Laurel, MT 59044 · Full-Time · Monday and Friday · $12–$20/hour
Be the person every classroom is glad to see walk in.
Every center has someone teachers count on: the one who covers a break so a teacher can catch her breath, steps in when someone’s out, and keeps the day steady for the kids. At our Ramshorn location in Laurel, that’s you.
As our Float, you’ll spend time in every room, from infants to preschoolers. You don’t plan lessons. Our Lead Teachers handle that, and you follow their plan and routines. Your job is to keep kids safe, keep the day consistent, and make every room you walk into a little calmer. If you’ve worked in retail, food service, or raised kids of your own, you already know how to read a room and jump in where you’re needed. We’ll teach you the rest.
What your days look like
- Moving between classrooms to cover breaks, absences, and busy times of day
- Following each room’s routines and activities so children’s days stay consistent, whoever is in the room
- Helping with snacks, lunch, naptime, and transitions
- Helping with diapering, toileting, and handwashing
- Guiding children through big feelings and helping them work out conflicts
- Encouraging kids to try things themselves, and noticing when they do well
- Keeping classrooms clean and ready
- Watching for safety and keeping ratios where they need to be
Who thrives here
You’re flexible. You can walk into the infant room in the morning and the preschool room before lunch and feel at home in both. You’re dependable, because teachers count on you to be there so they can take a break. You take direction well, pitch in without being asked, and stay out of gossip and drama. You don’t need to be the one running the room. You’re the reason the room runs well.
What you’ll need
- 18 years or older
- Membership on the Montana ECP Practitioner Registry. It’s easy to get, and we’ll help you sign up.
- Current Infant/Child/Adult CPR, infant choking response, and standard and pediatric First Aid. Not certified yet? We’ll schedule and pay for your CPR class.
- Completion of our staff orientation within your first 30 days, which we’ll walk you through
- Current MMR and Tetanus immunizations
- A background check and fingerprinting, as required by Montana licensing
- Able to lift 45 pounds and get up and down from the floor easily
