What are the responsibilities and job description for the Morning / Afterschool Van Driver position at The Sunshine Academy?
Van Driver — Morning and Afternoon Positions Available
The Sunshine Academy · 202 W 1st Street, Laurel, MT 59044 · Part-Time · $14–$20/hour
Be the best part of a kid’s morning, or their afternoon.
We have two positions open, and you can apply for either one:
- Morning shift: Help kids start the day calm and fed, then drive them safely to school.
- Afternoon shift: Pick kids up when the bell rings, bring them back safely, and turn the rest of the afternoon into something they look forward to.
Either way, you’re the person families trust to get their kids where they need to be, safely and on time. Tell us which shift you want when you apply, or if you’re interested in both.
This is a good fit if you want steady part-time hours that leave the rest of your day open. That could be a college student, a parent whose own kids are in school, a retiree with energy to spare, or anyone who wants work that means something.
What your shift looks like
- Driving our van between Sunshine and local schools, safely and on schedule
- Signing children in and out and keeping a careful count at every handoff
- Leading games, sports, outdoor play, arts and crafts, and STEM activities
- Keeping kids active, included, and getting along, and helping them work it out when they don’t
- Setting a good example: respectful, positive, and consistent
- Talking with parents at drop-off and pickup
- Helping keep the space clean and organized, and opening or closing out the day
- Keeping ratios where they need to be and following every safety procedure, on the van and off
Who thrives here
You’re dependable, because a family’s whole morning or afternoon depends on you showing up. You’re calm behind the wheel and patient with a van full of kids. You can get a group of 8-year-olds to line up without yelling, and you’d rather play the game than watch it from the sidelines. You stay flexible when plans change, and you work well with the team around you.
What you’ll need
- A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Experience with school-age children preferred. Coaching, camp, babysitting, or raising your own kids all count.
- CPR/First Aid certification. Not certified yet? We’ll schedule and pay for your CPR class.
- A background check and fingerprinting, as required by Montana licensing
- Clear communication and good teamwork
- Energy to keep up with a group of school-age kids
What we offer
- $14–$20 per hour, based on experience and credentials
- Your choice of a morning or afternoon shift
- PTO after one year
- 50% off tuition
- Professional development
- A Director who knows you and backs you up
