Professional & Administrative PositionsDescription of DutiesThe Cybersecurity and Data Science Department in the School of Science, Health, and Criminal Justice at the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Canton is seeking a full-time Instructional Support Assistant (ISA SL-1) to support instructional computing, laboratory operations, and applied learning activities beginning August 1, 2026.This is a 10-month, renewable appointment, contingent upon satisfactory performance.ResponsibilitiesThe Instructional Support Assistant reports to the Department Chair and works closely with faculty to support Cybersecurity (CYBR) and Data Science (DATA) programs through technical, instructional, and operational assistance.The ISA plays a key role in maintaining secure, modern learning environments by supporting computer laboratories, assisting with lab-based coursework, maintaining departmental websites, and helping students engage in hands-on learning both during and outside scheduled class time.Specific Duties:
- In collaboration with Public Relations, support development, maintenance, and content updates for departmental and laboratory websites.
- In collaboration with Information Services (IS), support operation, configuration, and day-to-day support of assigned computer laboratories.
- Assisting faculty with laboratory activities in Cybersecurity and Data Science courses.
- Supporting hands-on student learning during scheduled labs and open lab hours.
- In collaboration with Information Services install, update, and maintain software, virtual environments, and instructional tools.
- Monitoring, securing, and maintaining departmental computing equipment and lab assets.
- Enforcing lab usage policies and ensuring compliance with security and safety standards.
- Providing technical assistance to students working on coursework, projects, and experiments outside of class time.
- Maintaining documentation related to lab configurations, procedures, and inventories.
- Collaborating with faculty, staff, and IS services to support instructional needs.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.
- Minimum of a two-year associate degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience with computer systems, software installation, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with web development tools and content management systems.
- Basic knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
- Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to student success and instructional support.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced academic environment.
- Master’s degree in an appropriate field from an accredited college or university (e.g., instructional design, instructional technology, adult education, multimedia development).
- 2-3 years of experience applying instructional design principles to course content.
- Experience with creating accessible content.
- Experience with faculty support and training development.
- Experience with Brightspace by D2L learning management system (e.g., Brightspace by D2L).
