The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Mechanical Services, has a full-time vacancy for a Welder Mechanic II.
SUMMARY :
Performs supervisory duties and wide range of journeyman level welding/mechanical work on NHDOT fleet equipment.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 3 years of education and experience after completion of high school.
License/Certification: Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) with air brakes endorsement.
Other Requirements:
1. Applicant’s Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet minimum standards established by the hiring agency.
2. Applicant shall provide own standard assortment of automotive mechanic tools thru 1” diameter and ½” drive.
3. Must be capable of passing Bureau welding test.
Trainee Option: Not Applicable
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of experience as a welder or equivalency credential and completion or apprenticeship training (6000 hours) as a welder.
One year of experience as a welder in addition to the apprenticeship training.
AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS:
Must obtain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) with air brakes endorsement prior to completion of 12 months after the hiring date.

Responsibilities:
DETAILED TASKS (AGENCY/POSITION-SPECIFIC):
Assist with the supervision of the welding shop, maintain steel inventory to meet shop and other NHDOT agency needs, keep records, and approve work.
Design, install, upgrade, and maintain fleet equipment hydraulic systems. Work with computer controlled hydraulic software/hardware, sensors, and programming.
Assemble new trucks, prototype for each year, bodies, spreaders, and plow mounts.
Weld and cut with oxy-acetylene torch, plasma cutter, wire feed and stick welding in all positions.
Operate metal fabricating equipment and tools, mobile crane and lift systems.
Equipment maintenance, calibrations, lubrication, and cleaning.
Maintain a safe working environment.
