The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Division of Right-of-Way, has a full-time vacancy for a Land Surveyor Technician II.
SUMMARY : Performs semi-professional surveying functions under the supervision of a licensed land surveyor related to the planning, project development and/or maintenance of transportation structures and facilities, and to provide right-of-way information in response to inquiries.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS : Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience : Equivalent combination of 5.5 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience in land surveying, civil technologies, forestry, engineering, geography or related field.
License/Certificatio n: Valid driver’s license.
Other Requirements : Applicant’s MVR must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency.
Trainee Option : Not applicable
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in land surveying, CAD mapping, records research or related field.

RESPONSIBILITIES :
Independently researches and prepares reports to provide documentation attesting to the legal width, location and ownership of State highways. Analyses legal descriptions in title documents to produce plans showing highway rights-of way and property lines and easement locations using CAD/D and survey software.
Research of historical road layouts, Commissioner’s Returns of Layouts and Right-of-Way plans to define limits of existing right-of-way for state projects and outside requests.
Assist in the survey determination of and the development of the Existing Right-of-Way Plans.
Review consultant prepared Right-of-Way Plans for the correctness of their depiction of existing right-of-way lines and information.
Independently develops an exhibit sketches for condemnation proceedings to fulfill a statute requirement and for recording at the Registry of Deeds.
Conducts field inspections and surveys as required.
Develop existing right-of-way line drawing for new highway and bridge projects using layout alignments, right-of-way research and other sources, and develops survey requests for supplemental detail as needed.
Checks existing Right-of-Way text drawings with land ownership information, highway labeling, abstracting notes and right-of-way source notes.
Approve deeds prepared by others in the bureau for correctness and accuracy, may be required to supervise and train new employees as well as interns.
Develops layout alignment geometry and Right-of-Way mapping under the supervision of the Department’s Licensed Land Surveyor. Prepares Registry Plans in accordance with NH Plat law, RSA 478:1a.
