The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Office of the Commissioner has a part-time vacancy for Campus Security Marshal Supervisor, SOC Title 33-9030 SEC GDS-GMBLG INV-L5. This position is part-time, which cannot exceed 29.5 hours per work week and does not offer insurance benefits.
SUMMARY : Provides supervision to subordinate armed security personnel and armed security coverage at various Department of Safety (DOS) locations, acting in an ex officio constable capacity, through preventative patrol and emergency management to ensure a safe and controlled environment for all properties and personnel on DOS campuses.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS : Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience : Equivalent combination of 4 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in armed security, law enforcement, honorable service with the US Armed Forces, or related experience that required carrying a firearm as a condition of that position.
License/Certification: V alid driver's license
Other Requirements:
1. Must pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information.
2. Must pass a psychological examination, polygraph examination and character investigation.
3. Must pass a reference check.
4. Must pass a physical examination upon conditional offer of employment.
5. Must have a record free of conviction of serious offenses.
6. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of application.
7. May be required to work a flexible schedule including, but not limited to, early morning, evening and/or weekend hours.
8. May be required to travel throughout the State and work at various satellite offices for periods of time.
9. May be required to stand for prolonged periods of time.
10. Must maintain a professional appearance in accordance with applicable DOS.
11. Must complete firearms certification twice per year through Police Standards and Training.
12. Must complete defensive tactics training once per year through Police Standards and Training.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Supervisory experience within security, law enforcement, military or related areas.
AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS
1. Must possess or successfully complete a Defense Driving Course as approved by the New Hampshire Safety Council within the first six (6) months of employment
2. Within 6 months of hire must complete Court Officer Certification Training.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises security personnel and patrols and inspects assigned buildings, grounds, and parking lots on foot or in a vehicle to identify potentially unsafe conditions, safety hazards, suspicious activities, security violations, unauthorized individuals and/or potential threats to DOS properties, visitors, and personnel.
Ensures assigned DOS posts are staffed by scheduling and assigning Campus Security Marshals to ensure adequate coverage at designated locations. Evaluates performance, assesses training needs and provides corrective guidance as required to subordinate armed security employees.
Responds to elevated situations or concerns identified by subordinate staff and to unusual or emergency situations, reports of suspicious vehicles, people or activities on DOS properties and protects evidence and/or incident scenes in the event of accidents, emergencies or security investigations.
Observes public areas of assigned DOS locations and preserves order by analyzing potentially disruptive situations and utilizing verbal de-escalation techniques to control disruptive behavior and exercises authority and as needed or required to ensure a safe environment.
Prevents, discovers, delays and/or detains persons attempting to gain unauthorized access to property and/or personnel at the facility being protected, forcibly if necessary, and subdues resisting suspects using maneuvers, approved weapons, handcuffs, other restraints and self-defense mechanisms. Ensures that subordinate staff apply training and techniques appropriately and reviews/documents incidents when appropriate.
Reports potential threats to the Commissioner or applicable agency leadership and law enforcement as appropriate. Communicates with law enforcement in matters requiring a police response, including coordination to facilitate enforcement of state and federal laws.
Produce and maintain security-related documents, detailed incident reports, forms and logs pertaining to safety matters; reviews subordinate materials for accuracy and improvement.
Directs the public by identifying local office designated entry point(s), communicating contact person/department, or area required, and providing general information and/or instruction.
Responds to fire alarms, emergencies and potentially hostile situations and assists customers, staff and law enforcement agencies with agitated customers and/or visitors. Contacts law enforcement and/or fire and emergency units in cases of emergency and aids building occupants during the evacuation of buildings due to fire, bomb threats, presence of unauthorized persons or other emergencies.
Operates and maintains proficiency in the use of all assigned protective equipment, restraints, and firearms at levels of proficiency and participates in trainings as required.
