PDR ONS Shift Supervisor (Overnight Shift Supervisor at Phoenix Dining Room)
Position Summary
As a Shift Supervisor at St. Vincent de Paul’s shelter/transitional housing program, you will oversee operations to ensure a safe, welcoming, and organized environment for individuals experiencing homelessness. Leading a team of Service Coordinators, you will collaborate closely with security, case management/navigation, and community partners to address the specific needs of your shift—ranging from managing daily activities and volunteer engagement to handling crises and maintaining a secure overnight environment. This role demands a proactive, organized, and calm leader capable of adapting to a fast-paced atmosphere while ensuring the well-being of residents around the clock.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Lead service coordinators in maintaining a calm, safe, and supportive environment, directly supervising Service Coordinators and volunteers on shift.
- Operational Guidance: Provide daily guidance and support to the team, monitoring adherence to program policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Crisis Management: Collaborate with security and program staff to respond to and document emergencies, including behavioral issues, medical situations, and safety or facilities concerns.
- Operations: Oversee critical shift activities, including resident intake/discharge, meal or snack service operations, supply distribution, and the preparation / maintenance / transition and clean up of sleeping areas.
- Administrative Oversight: Maintain accurate records and logs in appropriate data systems (eg, HMIS, Uplift, etc.), including staff schedules, attendance, incident reports, and the proper handling/documentation of resident property.
- Facility Standards: Ensure the cleanliness, organization, and safety of all workspaces, dormitories, and communal areas, addressing sanitation needs or emergency clean-ups as they arise. Report situations promptly according to proper protocol.
- Volunteer Engagement: Support and coordinate volunteers, facilitating a welcoming and inclusive environment that ensures a positive experience for community contributors. Give clear directions, guidance, and appropriate appreciation.
- Organizational Alignment: Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and agency events to stay aligned with shelter goals and SVdP’s culture of “Let None Be Lost.”
- General Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum of one year working with vulnerable populations in a shelter or similar environment.
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Technical: Proficiency with Microsoft office software programs, internet navigation, and the ability to learn new databases and systems quickly.
- Certification: Current Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card or the eligibility to obtain one before first day of employment.
- Physical: Ability to stand, walk, lift up to 30 pounds, and perform other physical tasks as needed during various shifts.
Pay Information:
Hourly Pay
- Starting Pay: $23/hour
- Overnight Employees will receive an additional $1.00/hour from 10 pm – 6 am
Shift Supervisor: Level 1
Pay: Starts at $23.00/hour ( applicable shift differentials)
The Level I Supervisor focuses on the immediate execution of shift operations and direct supervision of floor staff.
- Team Leadership: Supervise up to 4 Service Coordinators; ensure staff are on task and adhering to SVdP culture.
- Operational Execution: Oversee daily intake/discharge, meal services, and the transition of sleeping areas.
- Crisis Response: Act as the primary point of contact for immediate behavioral, medical, or facilities situations, ensuring proper documentation.
- Facility Care: Monitor the cleanliness of dormitories and communal areas; perform or delegate emergency clean-ups.
- Technical Proficiency: Maintain accurate shift logs and incident reports using office software and agency databases.
- Requirements: High School Diploma/GED; 1 year of experience with vulnerable populations; Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance (or eligibility).
Shift Supervisor: Level 2
Pay: Starts at $25.00/hour ( applicable shift differentials)
The Level II Supervisor acts as a senior lead, handling more complex administrative tasks and mentoring Level I staff and Service Coordinators.
- 1 years of experience demonstrating Level I shift supervisor skills.
- Has completed 20 hours of training or certification in an area approved by manager (e.g. safety/OSHA, peer support certification, crisis intervention, trainer certification, volunteer engagement, data systems, etc.).
- Advanced Oversight: In addition to Level I duties, the Level II assists the Assistant Manager with staff scheduling and performance evaluations.
- Staff Development: Responsible for training and onboarding new Service Coordinators and Shift Supervisor I hires on shelter protocols and de-escalation techniques.
- Program Improvement: Identify operational gaps and propose solutions for more efficient intake or volunteer engagement processes.
- Complex Case Coordination: Serve as a liaison between overnight staff and daytime Case Management/Navigation to ensure continuity of care for high-needs residents.
- Inventory & Supplies: Manage the ordering and tracking of shelter supplies (linens, hygiene kits, etc.) to ensure the facility is always prepared.
- Demonstrates and coaches staff on SVdP Program Principles
