About Simple Vue Academy

Simple Vue Academy (SVA) is a tuition-free public charter school in Douglasville, Georgia, serving students in grades 6–12 through a bold focus on STREAM education, entrepreneurship, and student agency. Our work is rooted in the Ubuntu philosophy — I am because we are — and centers on preparing scholars not only for academic success, but for life.

At SVA, strong instruction is intentional, intellectually rigorous, and deeply planned. We are building a team of educators who believe teaching is a craft and who value intellectual preparation, professional accountability, and continuous growth.

Position Overview

Our Mathematics Teacher at Simple Vue Academy is responsible for delivering standards-aligned, high-quality instruction that meets the needs of all learners in our upper middle school grades. This role carries particular importance as students prepare for high school mathematics and, for eligible scholars, end-of-grade assessments.

We are seeking a candidate who is:

  • Certified in Mathematics (6–12) in the state of Georgia
  • Skilled in teaching 8th grade math concepts including linear equations, functions, geometry, and statistics
  • Committed to building mathematical thinking — not just procedural fluency
  • Equipped to support a range of learners, including students requiring intervention and those ready for acceleration
  • Aligned with SVA's core values: Voice, Ubuntu, and Empowerment

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Design & Delivery

Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned math instruction, including:

  • Clear learning objectives and success criteria tied to Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE)
  • Purposeful task selection aligned to rigor and Depth of Knowledge (DOK) levels
  • Anticipation of common misconceptions in algebraic reasoning, geometry, and data analysis
  • Strategic questioning and embedded checks for understanding
  • Prioritize conceptual understanding over rote memorization
  • Implement instructional strategies for diverse learners including small group instruction, differentiation, scaffolding, and extension opportunities
  • Use formative, performance-based, and summative assessment data to measure mastery and drive instructional decisions

Student Learning & Development

  • Foster a classroom culture grounded in intellectual curiosity, academic discourse, and student ownership
  • Support students' social-emotional and academic growth through clear routines, high expectations, and consistent encouragement
  • Make meaningful connections between math content and real-world, entrepreneurship-driven contexts relevant to SVA scholars

Collaboration & Professional Practice

  • Collaborate with colleagues to analyze student data, plan instruction, and align curriculum across grade levels
  • Participate fully in professional development, PLCs, and coaching and feedback cycles
  • Maintain accurate records related to instruction, assessments, and student progress
  • Contribute positively to school culture and shared responsibility for student success

Required Qualifications

Certification & Education

  • Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate in Mathematics (6–12)
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred

Experience & Instructional Skill

  • Minimum 2–3 years of teaching experience preferred, with demonstrated success teaching middle or high school mathematics
  • Strong content knowledge in 8th grade math: linear equations and systems, functions, congruence and similarity, the Pythagorean theorem, and statistics and probability
  • Demonstrated ability to plan rigorous, standards-aligned lessons and use data to inform instruction
  • Effective classroom management and the ability to build strong, structured learning environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with project-based or inquiry-based mathematics instruction
  • Familiarity with STREAM integration and real-world math applications
  • Culturally responsive teaching practices
  • Comfort using technology to enhance instruction (Google Classroom, Desmos, Khan Academy, etc.)
  • Experience working in innovative, startup, or charter school environments

Professional Expectations & Dispositions

Candidates are expected to demonstrate:

  • Strong intellectual preparation and deep planning discipline
  • A reflective, coachable stance — open to feedback and committed to growth
  • High standards of professionalism and accountability
  • The ability to thrive in a collaborative, mission-driven, fast-paced environment

Alignment with SVA's Core Values is essential:

  • Voice – honoring student perspectives, elevating math identity and agency
  • Ubuntu – shared responsibility for every scholar's mathematical success
  • Empowerment – equipping students with the mathematical tools to lead and problem-solve

Working Conditions
