Job Summary
The Dean of Academics at The Simple Vue Academy serves as a key educational leader responsible for implementing and overseeing the Academy’s STREAM-focused curriculum, entrepreneurship pathway, and maintaining the school’s commitment to empowering students through an Expanded Definition of Student Success (EDSS). This role coordinates all aspects of academic assessment, curriculum development, and teacher professional development while supporting the school’s mission to create a sustainable pathway to entrepreneurship.
The Dean of Academics also serves as the oversight leader for all specialized student support services — including MTSS, 504 Plans, IEPs, and Gifted Education — working in direct partnership with SVA’s Special Education Department, who manages day-to-day service delivery. This role ensures that all students receive high-quality, legally compliant support aligned with their individual needs.
Curriculum Development & Implementation
- Lead the integration of STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, Math) curriculum across grade levels
- Oversee the development and implementation of project-based learning tied to real community needs
- Design and refine entrepreneurship pathways and financial literacy programming
- Ensure curriculum aligns with the school’s core values: Voice, Ubuntu, and Empowerment
- Collaborate with teachers to develop cross-disciplinary units and authentic assessment strategies
Academic Systems Management
- Develop and maintain the school’s gradebook playbook, ensuring consistent grading practices across all grade levels
- Create and oversee implementation of homework policies that support student learning while respecting work-life balance
- Design and implement lesson plan review processes that ensure quality, rigor, and alignment with STREAM curriculum
- Establish clear academic protocols for intervention and enrichment opportunities
- Lead quarterly academic audits to ensure systems are supporting the school’s expanded definition of student success
- Coordinate with teachers to develop effective communication channels regarding student academic progress
- Design and oversee portfolio assessment systems aligned with entrepreneurship pathways
- Create frameworks for differentiating instruction while maintaining high academic standards
Specialized Student Support Services Oversight
- Oversee the implementation and compliance of all MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) processes, ensuring data-driven decision-making at each tier
- Provide administrative oversight of all 504 Plans, ensuring accommodations are properly documented, communicated to teachers, and implemented with fidelity
- Oversee IEP compliance and coordination, serving as the school’s administrative point of contact for special education services in partnership with the Special Educator
- Oversee Gifted Education programming, ensuring identified scholars receive appropriately differentiated instruction and enrichment
- Partner with the Special Educator to monitor scholar progress, review service plans, and communicate with families
- Ensure all specialized services remain in compliance with federal and state regulations, including IDEA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
- Serve as escalation point for family concerns related to student support services
- The Dean of Academics provides leadership oversight for all specialized services. Day-to-day case management and service delivery is handled by SVA’s dedicated Special Educator.
Teacher Coaching & Professional Development
- Conduct regular classroom observations and provide actionable, growth-oriented feedback
- Design and facilitate professional development sessions aligned with SVA’s instructional vision
- Support teachers in differentiating instruction and creating personalized learning plans
- Mentor new teachers and build teacher leadership capacity across the school
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in the school leadership team to support strategic planning
- Assist in developing student portfolio systems and student-led conferences
- Support the implementation of the school’s equity audit framework
- Contribute to grant writing and program evaluation efforts
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Special Education, or related field
- 7 years of classroom teaching experience
- Experience with project-based learning and STREAM/STEAM education
- Demonstrated success in curriculum development and teacher mentoring
- Strong data analysis skills and experience with assessment systems
- Knowledge of MTSS frameworks, 504 processes, and special education compliance (IDEA)
- Knowledge of entrepreneurship education and financial literacy
Pay: $60,000.00 - $67,000.00 per year
