Climate Data Specialist - 1540
6 month contract
Location: Remote from PST only
Pay rate: $50/hour W2
The Sage Group’s client, a leading SaaS company, is looking for a highly analytical and data-savvy Climate Data Specialist to join our team for a critical period of data collection, footprint calculation, and reporting. You will be the architect of our carbon data pipeline—ensuring that information flowing from our internal systems into our climate models is accurate, validated, and ready for third-party audit, which you will also support.
Ideal Candidate Profile
You are a "Data Translator." You understand why a sudden spike in cloud compute usage matters for Scope 3 emissions, and you know exactly how to query the database to find the root cause. You thrive on turning disorganized data into polished, verifiable reports.
Key Responsibilities
Data Collection & Engineering:
- Extract and process environmental data from internal Data Lakes and external vendor APIs.
- Clean and transform messy datasets into structured formats suitable for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) accounting.
Carbon Accounting:
- Calculate Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions using globally recognized standards (GHG Protocol).
- Apply appropriate emission factors and document methodologies for transparency.
Validation & QA
- Perform rigorous data validation to spot anomalies, missing entries, or outliers
- Ensure the data is "audit-ready" for third-party verification.
Visualizations & Reporting:
- Build and maintain automated dashboards (e.g. Tableau) to track progress against climate targets.
- Synthesize complex data into clear insights for executive leadership.
Process Optimization:
- Bridge the gap between sustainability requirements and technical data infrastructure, identifying ways to automate manual collection processes.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Technical Proficiency: Strong SQL skills for data extraction.
- Experience working with Data Lakes and integrating data via APIs.
- Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills (Pivot tables, complex formulas).
- Domain Expertise: Solid understanding of the GHG Protocol and climate reporting frameworks and regulations (e.g. SBTi, TCFD, ASRS, CSRD).
- Analytical Mindset: A "detective" approach to data—the ability to look at a dataset and uncover anomalies, gaps
- High attention to detail, specifically regarding data lineage and documentation.
- Self-Starter: Ability to identify and anticipate data needs, next steps, and proactively pursue actions required
- Experience: 5 years of experience in Data Analysis, Sustainability Consulting, or similar
