POSITION SUMMARY The Deputy Superintendent of Operations & Academics is a senior executive leader responsible for the integration and oversight of academic performance and operational systems across the charter organization. This role ensures that instruction, staffing, compliance, and operational supports function cohesively to advance student achievement and fulfill the charter’s mission.
The Deputy Superintendent serves as a strategic advisor to the Superintendent, ensures compliance with Texas Education Agency (TEA) requirements, charter contract obligations, and Board expectations, and serves as acting Superintendent in the absence of the Superintendent, as designated.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Academic Leadership & Accountability
Implement and oversee curriculum, instruction, assessment, MTSS, and student support programs.
Design, implement and maintain alignment with instructional practices and student outcomes with TEKS, STAAR, and the Texas Accountability standards.
Ensure alignment with TEKS, STAAR, and Texas A–F Accountability standards.
Lead campus- and network-level data analysis to inform instructional improvements and close achievement gaps.
Oversee academic improvement and turnaround plans when campuses are identified for intervention.
Ensure compliance and effective service delivery for special populations, including SPED, 504, and at-risk students.
Support and evaluate staff as assigned using District appraisal system.
Oversee professional learning systems aligned with instructional priorities and teacher effectiveness.
Operations, Human Resources & Compliance
Provide executive oversight of charter-wide operational systems, including:
Human Resources
Facilities and maintenance
Transportation
Child nutrition services
Safety, security, and emergency operations
Enrollment, attendance, and ADA processes
Strategic Leadership & Governance Support
Partner with the Superintendent to develop and execute the charter’s strategic plan.
Align academic initiatives with operational capacity, staffing structures, and financial resources.
Lead cross-functional initiatives requiring collaboration between academics, operations, HR, and finance.
Prepare clear, data-driven reports and presentations for the Board related to academics, operations, staffing, and compliance.

Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university required; a concentration in Education, Educational Leadership, Public Administration, or related field preferred
Valid Texas Superintendent or Principal Certification preferred
8 years of progressive leadership experience in Texas K–12 education; charter school experience strongly preferred
Experience working with a wide range of populations: personnel, students, parents, and other stakeholders.
Demonstrated success in:
Academic improvement under TEA accountability
Managing complex operational and human capital systems
Strong working knowledge of:
TEKS, STAAR, and A–F Accountability
Texas charter compliance and governance
HR and staffing practices within public education
OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus; judge distance (close and distant); reach with arms extended and use hands to manipulate the keyboard, smart board and other office/classroom technology.
Ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds, including but not limited to: books, paper and office materials/supplies.
This position requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling and/or the ability to be mobile.
This position may require prolonged or irregular hours.
Maintain emotional control under stress.
Ability to travel throughout the district and city as needed by means of personal/private or public transportation in compliance with the state’s department of motor vehicle and/or public transportation laws.
Ability to communicate effectively in English both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.
