FLSA Classification: Non-exempt, academic-year (10-month) position
Reports To: Elementary Director
Hours: 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Start Date: Beginning of the 2026–2027 School Year (Fall 2026)
Description of Position:
The Elementary Associate Teacher position serves the students of Post Oak by providing an
additional trained adult to support the development of the child in the Montessori environment
through preparation of the environment, presentation of activities, modeling grace and courtesy,
observation, assistance with follow-up work, and communication with families. The position
provides an opportunity for a Montessori trained adult to work side by side with the lead guide, and
take on additional responsibilities that will hone their skills and further their preparation as a
Montessori guide.
Roles and responsibilities:
At the discretion of the coordinating lead guide, the Elementary Associate Teacher may be
asked to perform the following duties:
● Prepare the environment for the children at the beginning or end of the day
● Make materials for the classroom
● Give children Montessori presentations
● Observe the work of the children and provide feedback and support as needed
● Timely recording of attendance, presentations and progress in Transparent Classroom
● Observe student social/emotional development and model grace and courtesy
● Take over duties of the lead guide in her absence
● In careful coordination with the lead guide, participate in communication with parents
regarding child development and progress
○ Responding to emails
○ Participation at parent teacher conferences
○ Helping with preparation of progress reports/comments if requested
○ Work with Division Director and Admissions Team to facilitate student interviews
● Attend parent events alongside lead guide as requested:
○ Classroom orientations
○ POPA Dinner
○ Family Fun Day
○ Additional classroom or Primary community events
● Attend monthly faculty meetings
● Meet with lead guide weekly to offer/share feedback and maintain open communication
● Continue educational development
○ Attend educational opportunities (e.g., Montessori conferences, social thinking training)
Criteria for Consideration:
a) The candidate has completed a Montessori Teacher training course and exams and has a diploma;
b) The lead teacher would like to have the associate teacher fulfilling this role in their
classroom, that is, they see the benefit to the children and environment and they are
willing to support the professional growth of the associate teacher by handing over
these responsibilities;
c) The associate accepts the additional responsibilities and is in a position to fulfill all the
duties of this job.
Process:
Employee candidates may interview for this position with the Elementary Director and the Head
of School.
Clarification:
Fulfilling the position of Associate Teacher is not a guarantee of being offered the next available
lead teacher position. Each position is filled by the division director and qualified candidates will
be considered in either a search or an appointment of that position.
