Summary:
Provides bar service to Club members and guests. Maintains general standards of stocking glassware, liquor, beer, wine and miscellaneous bar supplies. Ensures sanitation standards are met.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following;
- Takes orders, prepares and serves drinks to members and guests in a timely manner so that the highest standards of customer service are met.
- Rings up orders and gives accurate receipt to member for signature.
- Maintains proper inventory levels of bar stock and requisitions liquor, beer, wine, mixers and miscellaneous supplies.
- Maintains bar sanitation procedures to meet Health Department regulations.
- Stocks appropriate glassware for all shifts and notifies bar management of shortages.
- Performs all bar opening and closing duties including side work to ensure operational efficiency.
- Assists with the setup of the happy hour buffet when necessary.
- Assists with taking cocktail orders on the floor if necessary.
- Handles member complaints and issues.
- Assists with taking food orders while servicing members at the outdoor dining outlet.
- Maintains proper pour and quantity of liquor and wine use.
- Assists with inventory as needed at the direction of the Bar Manager.
- On occasion, may have to taste (taste is defined as sampling a small portion of an item) a member’s alcoholic beverage in response to a member complaint regarding the beverage.
- Communicates with members, co-workers, management and the general public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
- Exhibits and maintains a professional demeanor to reflect a positive image of The Polo Club.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Bar Manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Previous experience in an upscale restaurant, hotel/resort or club is preferred.
- Must have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Requires inventory control and reordering skills.
- Must be able to work unusual hours including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to verbally communicate well in English and in writing.
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions in English.
- Ability to interact professionally and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers and members.
- Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus a minimum of one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certificate from a bar tending school is preferred.
Language Skills:
Ability to communicate well in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak on a one-on-one basis to members and guests.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate and percent.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software and Inventory software. Must be proficient with point-of-sale (POS) electronic ordering system.
