Summary:
As the initial point of contact at the club’s food & beverage venues, this position is responsible for providing a positive first impression by displaying professionalism, friendliness and outstanding service to club members and their guests. Greets members and guests upon arrival and shows them to their table according to reservations and seating availability. Coordinates the flow of the dining room by balancing assigned tables among servers and communicates with the Dining Room Manager regarding table turns. This position is responsible for demonstrating genuine hospitality by welcoming, creating rapport and delivering a consistent exceptional experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following;
- Greets members warmly, using their name whenever possible.
- Shows members to their tables, provides them with menus and ensures that the table is set properly.
- Obtains membership number information and assists with any requests such as guest menus, table preference, child seating and food preparation needs.
- Coordinates the flow of the dining room by balancing assigned tables among servers.
- Monitors the dining area for cell phone use, appropriate attire and other rule violations.
- Monitors service being provided to determine if assistance is appropriate, such as supplying bread and water.
- Monitors hostess/host stand to ensure area is neat, clean, mints are refilled and menus are clean.
- Answers the telephone and responds to members questions and orders.
- Attends to all opening and closing duties as per the appropriate procedure.
- Takes “to go” orders, ensuring that utensils, napkins and condiments are included in the bag and charges the member number accordingly.
- Picks up reservation sheet and ensures table set up for the next shift.
- Receives checks from Servers at the end of the shift and places in numerical order.
- Runs an area report for the shift to ensure all checks are accounted for.
- Puts away menus, clears trash and wipes down counter at the end of the shift and as necessary during dining service.
- Recognize members upon their exit, smiles and thanks them for coming to the Club to dine.
- Reviews checks for accuracy, signs and brings to the Food & Beverage office.
- Stays informed of special events, current Club issues and the specials for the day.
- Communicates with members, co-workers, management and the general public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
- Exhibits and maintains a professional demeanor and grooming standards to reflect a positive image of The Polo Club.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Dining Room Manager.

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); a minimum of six months experience and/or training in the food and beverage or customer service related industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
Ability to communicate well in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one to members and guests.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Internet and point-of-sale (POS) electronic ordering system.
