Duration: 3-year Contract
The Planet Group is seeking a Field Geologist or Geological Engineer with 5–10 years of experience to support field investigations, environmental assessments, and geotechnical projects. This role involves extensive travel and hands-on fieldwork across multiple project sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide field oversight for monitoring well installations, foundation investigations, contamination assessments, and geologic site characterizations
- Perform detailed soil and rock logging and prepare professional logs
- Install and maintain groundwater monitoring and water quality equipment; manage and interpret data output
- Coordinate and manage drilling crews and other contractors in accordance with project requirements
- Support field investigations in collaboration with internal teams and stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements
Required Qualifications:
- 5–10 years of experience in geology, geological engineering, or a related field
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline (preferred)
- Experience with field investigations using various drilling methods
- Proficiency in soil and rock logging, monitoring well installation, and groundwater monitoring
- Knowledge of environmental sampling and testing methods
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
- Experience with gINT BoreDM (or similar boring log software)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong commitment to safety and ability to manage field conditions effectively
Work Environment & Travel:
- 100% travel required
- Typical schedule is four 10-hour days (Monday–Thursday), with occasional extended rotations (e.g., 10-day assignments)
- Frequent travel across the southeastern United States
- Company-provided or reimbursed vehicle for project travel
- Lodging, meals, and fuel expenses reimbursed for work-related travel
