Key Responsibilities
- Develop, write, and optimize CNC programs for lathe machines using CAM software or manual G-code.
- Interpret complex engineering blueprints, CAD models, and specifications to determine machining requirements.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, holders, and workholding devices for specific machining operations.
- Perform program simulations and dry runs to verify tool paths, collision avoidance, and machining accuracy.
- Troubleshoot and debug existing CNC programs to resolve machining errors, optimize cycle times, and improve part quality.
- Collaborate with machinists and manufacturing engineers to refine processes and implement best practices.
- Maintain accurate program documentation, including setup sheets, tool lists, and revision control.
- Proficiency in G-code and M-code programming for CNC lathes.
- Demonstrated experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360) for generating toolpaths.
- Strong ability to interpret engineering blueprints, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- In-depth knowledge of various tooling, workholding methods, and cutting parameters specific to lathe operations.
- Proven experience in setting up, proving out, and troubleshooting CNC lathe programs.
- Understanding of material properties and their impact on machining processes.
- Experience with multi-axis CNC lathes (e.g., Y-axis, sub-spindle, live tooling).
- Proficiency in advanced CAD modeling for fixture design or complex part geometries.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with CNC machine setup and operation.
