The Mom Project is thrilled to partner with our client, a leader in the video game and digital entertainment industry, in support of their Apprentice Pathway Program (APP)!
APP is a workforce development program that provides apprenticeships to job seekers from nontraditional backgrounds. We are seeking a Software Engineering professional returning to the workforce after taking time off from their careers for caregiving. The apprenticeship program includes 6 months of paid employment, featuring hands-on work and the opportunity to contribute to ongoing projects.
This role will be a part of a cohort and will begin in January 2026.

Role Overview
- Work with a team that builds and maintains reliable, high-performance server services. This team oversees 24 microservices and 3 internal tools that are critical to powering both the PS4 and PS5
- Learn about the overall architecture of the components maintained by the team for PS5 services
- Maintain, update, and extend RESTful Web Services API
- Work with algorithms that deal with massive data sets to power these APIs
- Produce excellent, thorough design and development documentation
- Develop with agile methodology
Must Haves:
- Good communication skills
- Ability to learn new technologies (for example, unit testing frameworks, CI/CD)
- Familiarity with backend software development, Java, and Asynchronous Web Application Programming
- At least 1 year of prior experience as a Software Engineer.
- Experience with backend services
- Database: NoSQL, SQL
- Applications: Kubernetes, AWS
- Automated Testing
- Monday - Friday, 40 hours/week
- Candidates must be based in the San Mateo, CA area. Work will be primarily remote, with occasional days (at least 1x/month) on-site for workshops, trainings, or team gatherings
- Cohort will begin in January 2026
