About the Agency
The Alcoholic Beverage Control Bureau of Enforcement (ABC), with the MS Dept of Revenue is the primary agency charged with enforcing the Local Option Alcoholic Beverage Control laws, Prohibition Laws, and laws governing Beer / Light Wine products. This bureau is also responsible for the enforcement of criminal laws and regulatory codes governing Medical Cannabis dispensaries throughout the State of Mississippi.
About the Position
We are currently recruiting for positions in Brookhaven, MS, Meridian, MS and Biloxi, MS. ABC Enforcement Agents are armed Sworn State Law Enforcement Officers who work under the direct supervision of an ABC Agent-In-Charge. ABC Agents are trained investigators responsible for the enforcement of criminal laws and administrative regulations governing the manufacture, importation, distribution, sale, and possession of alcoholic beverages, beer, and light wine throughout the state, as well as the enforcement of criminal laws and regulatory codes governing Medical Cannabis dispensaries throughout the state. ABC Agents work closely with municipal, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in the furtherance of the ABC mission and to aid other law enforcement agencies where needed, and respond to natural disasters. ABC Agents work with various computer systems, IT systems, and technology solutions to aid them in their enforcement duties.
ABC Agents often investigate complex cases involving financial and tax-related criminal violations. ABC Agents serve as subject matter experts (SME) related to alcohol laws and regulations, as well as laws and regulations governing the dispensing of medical cannabis, and provide education and training to permitted retail businesses throughout the state. ABC Agents are routinely called on to work in undercover capacities and with confidential informants during investigations. ABC Agents execute criminal search and arrest warrants as well as testify in criminal and administrative court proceedings.
Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college. Must be 21 years of age and able to pass a pre-employment physical fitness test equivalent to 50% standard required for entry into the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy (MLEOTA). Must be able to pass an agency and criminal background investigation. Must possess Professional Certification for full-time Law Enforcement Officer as prescribed by the Board of Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Training (BLEOST) or be able to obtain certification within six months of hire upon employment with the ABC.
Special Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college Applicant must be 21 years of age as required by Sections 45-9-101, 45-3-9 and 35.2.1.16 of the Mississippi Administrative Code and must meet all additional Qualifications of Personnel as required by Section 67-1-25 Miss. Code Ann.. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of Mississippi. Applicants will be required to pass a physical examination before appointment.
1.Law Enforcement Officer I (Degree) - A Bachelor’s Degree, possession of a State of Mississippi Law Enforcement Professional Certification within six months of hire, and 0 - 1 year of experience in law enforcement. 0 to 1 year (Starting Salary: $50,000)
2. Law Enforcement Officer II (Degree) - A Bachelor’s Degree, possession of a State of Mississippi Law Enforcement Professional Certification and 1- 4 years of experience in law enforcement. 1- 4 years (Starting Salary: $52,000)
Salary : $50,000 - $52,000
