About the Position
Please note that this is a statewide job posting for various locations at our district offices around Mississippi. Entry-level Auditors may be responsible for the following audit functions: Initiate contact with taxpayers concerning audits of various tax types, application of knowledge of professional accounting principles as well as state tax laws, regulations and policies in the performance of tax audits, prepare audit reports making additional tax assessments or refunds of various tax types based on data provided by taxpayers and audit procedures used, communicating audit results with taxpayers, and represent the Department of Revenue in appeals of tax audits. This position could also perform accounting functions, including disbursing agency funds in accordance with approved policies and procedures and diverting tax collections in compliance with State laws, rules, and regulations. interpretation of fiscal, tax, and employment legislation while acting as a fiscal advisor to agency administrators and the administration of employee compensation and benefit plans. Some in-state and out-of-state travel may be required.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in accounting or accounting/data processing ;
OR
Bachelor's Degree including a minimum of 24 hours of the following courses:
18 hours in the following courses:
- Principles of Accounting I and II
- Intermediate Accounting I and II
- Federal Income Tax
- Auditing
The remaining 6 hours may be selected from the following:
- Cost Accounting
- Advanced Accounting
- Business Law
- Advanced Auditing
- Accounting Systems
- Managerial Accounting
- Advanced Federal Income Tax
- Auditing Problems
What you'll need to be Successful
The ability to maintain a professional attitude and integrity, ability to learn and apply tax law, policies, and procedures, be proficient in using Microsoft Excel workbook, ability to communicate with taxpayers and tax professionals in verbal and written form, ability to multitask and manage assigned tasks
Salary : $51,500 - $54,991
