What are the responsibilities and job description for the Performing Arts Instructors and Aides - Seasonal/Year-Round position at The Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission?
Plan and deliver age-appropriate performing arts classes and workshops for community participants. Teach core principles of dance, theater, and/or music performance, including technique, stage presence, and ensemble collaboration. Design lesson plans that integrate creativity, movement, story telling, and cultural diversity. Foster an inclusive and supportive environmentthat encourages self-expression and teamwork. Collaborate with parents, recreation staff, and community partners to ensure program goals align with participant needs and interests. Manage class logistics, including attendance tracking, equipment setup, and safety compliance. Evaluate student progress through observation, feedback, and performance assessments.
Associates degree in Performing Arts, Theater, Music, Dance, Education, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Minimum of two years of teaching or performance experience in the performing arts. Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills. Ability to adapt to lessons for diverse learning styles and abilities. Experience working in recreation, community arts, or youth development settings preferred. CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire). Aides must be at least 18 years of age. Instructors must be at least 21 years of age.
Instruction takes place in classrooms, makerspaces, community centers, and outdoor learning environments. Instructors must be comfortable with hands-on teaching and flexible learning formats. Work location may vary based on need.

This position is Seasonal/part-time. This position is not eligible for benefits. Must successfully pass a complete background investigation.
