This role ensures exceptional patient care, image quality, radiation safety, and strict compliance with departmental, facility, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnostic Imaging & Patient Care
- Procedure Execution: Perform general diagnostic radiographic procedures in accordance with established imaging protocols and policies.
- Pediatric Care: Deliver high-quality diagnostic images while ensuring patient comfort, safety, and specialized care tailored specifically to pediatric populations using Family-Centered Care principles.
- Technical Precision: Apply appropriate positioning techniques, technical factors, and imaging equipment settings to achieve optimal diagnostic results on the first exposure.
- Patient Monitoring: Maintain continuous attention to patients during procedures, assisting with and supporting various complex diagnostic imaging workflows as needed.
- Regulatory Adherence: Strict adherence to all federal, state, and facility radiation safety regulations, heavily emphasizing ALARA principles, proper shielding, collimation, and patient/operator protection.
- Dose Tracking: Monitor and carefully document Dose Area Product (DAP) as required by compliance guidelines.
- Documentation Integrity: Ensure flawless patient identification, dosimeter badge compliance, and proper documentation on all images and examination records.
- Data Archiving: Process, transfer, archive, and maintain patient imaging studies and related records seamlessly.
- HIPAA & Security: Maintain accurate patient examination records in strict compliance with facility, regulatory, and HIPAA requirements, protecting the integrity and confidentiality of the Radiology Information System (RIS).
- Staff Mentorship: Orient and train radiology students and new employees on local workflows and safety measures.
- Professional Development: Participate in departmental in-services, staff development activities, and complete all required annual education and competency metrics.
- Collaboration: Contribute positively to the department's team environment, communicate operational or scheduling concerns to the Team Leader, and participate in holiday call coverage as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent; Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
- Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of radiology experience.
- Pediatric Experience: 100% Required. Proven, hands-on clinical experience managing and positioning pediatric patients is a mandatory constraint for this role.
- Certifications:
- Current certification as a Radiologic Technologist (RT) through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Current CPR certification requiring hands-on, instructor-led skills verification (e.g., American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
- Technical Skills: Working knowledge of modern diagnostic imaging procedures, radiographic equipment, and proficiency with Radiology Information Systems (RIS).
- Soft Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills, including professional phone etiquette and the ability to ease patient/family anxiety.
- Cross-training or advanced experience across multiple diagnostic imaging modalities.
