Bench Role for 2026–2027

Assignment Overview

This role supports special‑needs students by providing behavioral, academic, and personal‑care assistance as directed by a case manager or behaviorist. Responsibilities include instructional support, daily‑living assistance (feeding, toileting, positioning), and monitoring student health and safety.

• Full school days
• 30‑minute unpaid break
• Candidates may be placed at the elementary, middle, or high school level.
• Candidate preferences will be included when submitting profiles.
  
  

Role Responsibilities

• Provide instructional support (cognitive, motor, feeding, self‑help, behavior).
• Maintain student safety and awareness of environmental risks.
• Assist with personal hygiene (handwashing, toileting, diapering, clothing changes).
• Monitor and support student behavior following established guidelines.
• Support specialists with physical development activities.
• Prepare students for mainstream classes.
• Attend required trainings and in‑services (medical and instructional).
• Assist with orthopedic equipment; lift and reposition students as needed.
• Maintain records related to student progress.
• Implement positive behavior intervention supports.
• Collaborate with caseworkers, teachers, and staff.
• Support students in social interactions.
• Work independently and collaboratively.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
  
  

Clearance Requirements

All clearances must be dated within the past year, except:

• Child Abuse Training: valid for 5 years
• TB Test: must be within the past 90 days
  
  

Candidate Screening Notes

• Confirm the candidate is not currently working for another agency in the same system.
• A brief 15‑minute virtual interview is used for hiring.
• Occasional meet‑and‑greet with a supervisor may occur (not typical).
