Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Industrial Machine Builder to assemble complete OEM machinery and subassemblies from mechanical drawings, BOMs, and specifications. This is a hands-on shop-floor role requiring precision mechanical assembly, alignment, troubleshooting during build, and support during machine testing and run-off.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble complete machinery and subassemblies using mechanical drawings, exploded views, and BOMs
- Read and interpret engineering drawings including dimensions, tolerances, fits, and fastener callouts
- Install, align, and verify mechanical components such as shafts, bearings, rollers, chain/belt drives, gearboxes, couplings, motors, pneumatics (FRLs, valves, cylinders), and basic hydraulics (if applicable)
- Use precision measurement and inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators, feeler gauges, straightedges, torque tools) to ensure proper fit and alignment
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues during build and testing, including misalignment, vibration, tracking issues, air leaks, and premature wear
- Collaborate with engineering and production to clarify drawings, identify discrepancies, and suggest build or serviceability improvements
- Complete required build documentation including checklists, punch lists, redlines, and quality notes
- Maintain a safe, organized workspace and follow all shop safety procedures
- 3 years of hands-on experience building or assembling industrial machinery (OEM machine builder, industrial assembler, millwright, packaging or converting equipment technician, or similar)
- Proven ability to build directly from mechanical engineering drawings and BOMs
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical power transmission and assembly practices, including bearings, shafts, sprockets, chain drives, gears, fasteners, torque methods, alignment, and precision fit-up
- Solid experience with pneumatic systems (cylinders, valves, regulators, tubing, leak checks)
- Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments
- Ability to work independently, troubleshoot problems, and clearly communicate build issues
- Experience with converting, packaging, or web-handling equipment
- Ability to read pneumatic schematics and assemble clean pneumatic circuits
- Experience supporting machine testing, debug, run-off, or FAT activities
- Technical or vocational training in machine assembly, manufacturing, or mechanical systems
- Shop-floor manufacturing environment requiring standing, bending, and use of hand/power tools
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (mechanical assistance provided for heavier assemblies)
- Required use of PPE and adherence to all safety procedures
