Job Description: Sports DirectorPosition Title: Sports DirectorReports To: Executive Director / Principal / Athletic BoardLocation: [Organization/School Name]Employment Type: Full-timePosition SummaryThe Sports Director oversees the planning, development, and management of all athletic programs within the organization. This role ensures that sports activities promote participant development, safety, inclusivity, and organizational standards. The Sports Director manages staff, budgets, scheduling, facilities, and compliance with relevant regulations, while fostering a positive and competitive athletic culture.Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Leadership & DevelopmentPlan, implement, and supervise all athletic programs and seasonal sports activities.Develop short- and long-term strategies to enhance athletic performance and participation.Evaluate program effectiveness and introduce improvements based on feedback and performance data.Staff ManagementRecruit, train, supervise, and evaluate coaches and athletic staff.Provide guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.Oversee staffing schedules and ensure proper coverage for all practices and events.Compliance & SafetyEnsure all sports programs comply with organizational policies, league rules, and governing bodies (e.g., NFHS, NCAA, local sports associations).Oversee athlete eligibility, health screenings, and required documentation.Enforce safety standards and emergency protocols for practices, facilities, and competitions.Budgeting & Resource ManagementDevelop and manage the athletics budget, including equipment purchases and facility maintenance.Oversee inventory, uniforms, and proper care of athletic equipment.Coordinate fundraising, sponsorships, and community partnerships when applicable.Event & Facility CoordinationCreate schedules for practices, games, tournaments, and travel.Oversee facility usage and maintenance of sports fields, courts, and gymnasiums.Coordinate transportation and logistics for teams and events.Communication & Community EngagementServe as the primary point of contact for athletics-related inquiries.Communicate schedules, program updates, and expectations to athletes, parents, staff, and stakeholders.Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and school/community spirit.QualificationsEducation & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).3–5 years of experience in coaching, athletics administration, or program management.Experience managing staff and budgets preferred.Skills & CompetenciesStrong leadership and organizational abilities.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Knowledge of athletic regulations, safety standards, and best practices.Ability to manage multiple programs and priorities simultaneously.Proficiency with scheduling and athletic management software (a plus).Working ConditionsRequires evening and weekend availability for games and events.May involve physical activity and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.Occasional travel for competitions or conferences.

Salary : $60,000 - $80,000
