Staff Accountant

Join Our Client as a Staff Accountant / Accounts Payable Specialist – Be a Key Player in a Dynamic Finance Team!

Compensation: 33-37/HR

Responsibilities:

• Execute month-end close procedures for designated accounts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Respond promptly via email and phone to inquiries from internal teams and vendors, delivering exceptional customer service.
• Investigate discrepancies, identify root causes of issues, and escalate complex problems when necessary.
• Validate, process, and record invoices, adhering to established policies and procedures.
• Communicate accounting policies clearly to internal stakeholders and vendors.
• Contribute to the preparation of monthly AP performance metrics and reports.
• Assist in developing and delivering training sessions on AP processes, procedures, and policies.
• Collaborate across departments and serve as a reliable backup for routine AP transactions, including check issuance, electronic payments, and wire transfers.
• Support special projects and process improvements as assigned, fostering ongoing operational enhancements.

Requirements:

• A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in accounting, finance, or related financial operations within large organizations.
• Proven proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a knack for swift issue identification.
• Excellent organizational skills and a keen eye for detail to ensure timely and accurate completion of tasks.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to handle sensitive information tactfully.
• Demonstrated adaptability and a team-oriented mindset, with flexibility to handle changing priorities.
• Ability to prioritize workloads efficiently and work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred:

• At least one (1) year of experience providing customer service within a broad constituency.
• Knowledge of financial operations in nonprofit settings, particularly within higher education.
• Experience with SAP or similar enterprise accounting systems.
• Previous experience at MIT is a plus.

Other Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• The role requires 2-3 days of in-person training in Kendall Square, with a hybrid work schedule post-training.
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment during a six-month contract, with potential for extension.
• This position is in compliance with Vax requirements and will start at the end of January.
