Marketing & Communications Assistant
The Greensboro Science Center’s (GSC) Marketing & Communications Assistant is a part-time position that reports to the Marketing Manager. This position assists with planning and implementing marketing, digital communications, and community engagement strategies to promote GSC attractions, events, and initiatives. Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills are required. This is a part-time, hourly position (approximately 25 hours per week) with the opportunity for growth.
Knowledge Of:
- Marketing and communications best practices, preferably with coursework or experience in a related field and/or the tourism, hospitality, or attractions industries
- Digital communication and social media platforms, and best practices
- Google Analytics, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365
- Cloud-based programs such as WordPress, Dropbox, Google Drive, and Canva
- Design and/or photography best practices and Adobe Creative Cloud skills are a plus

Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop a thorough knowledge of the GSC’s operations and brand
- Assist with developing, distributing, and updating internal and external marketing and communications content across social media, email, website, calendars, and various advertising channels
- Assist with managing the GSC’s social media platforms, including scheduling content and responding to comments, messages, and online reviews in a timely, brand-appropriate manner
- Assist with the creation and distribution of marketing materials such as flyers, signage, and rack cards
- Assist with media relations efforts, including coordinating requests, facilitating on-site media visits, providing tours, and supporting or participating in on-camera interviews
- Support community outreach efforts through tabling events, local partnerships, and other promotional opportunities
- Track and report on social media, email marketing, and other analytics
- Research and maintain current knowledge of industry trends
- Maintain a strong work ethic and a flexible, professional, and team-oriented outlook
- Other duties as assigned
Environmental Factors:
- This is a part-time position with hours typically totaling approximately 25 hours per week, with the ability to work a flexible schedule on occasion, including weekends, evenings, and early mornings as needed.
- Some work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
- Some work requires the ability to curate content or conduct tours in a zoo and aquarium environment, which can include traversing a 22-acre zoo and maneuvering in back-of-house areas.
- This position requires standing and/or sitting for long periods of time.
- Ability to communicate and interact with both individuals and large groups is required.
- Work will take place in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and will involve being outdoors for various lengths of time under a variety of conditions with exposure to various plants and animals.
