What You’ll Do

Lead an Outstanding Program

  • Support the daily operations of an afterschool program.
  • Create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children.
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA policies, Child Protection Standards, and state licensing requirements.

Inspire Children

  • Plan and lead fun, educational, and enriching activities.
  • Encourage positive behavior, confidence, teamwork, and character development.
  • Supervise children while ensuring their safety and well-being.

Lead and Develop Staff

  • Train, coach, mentor, and evaluate staff and volunteers.
  • Foster a positive team culture built on collaboration and respect.
  • Serve as a role model by demonstrating the YMCA’s core values of Caring, Honesty,
  • Respect, and Responsibility.

Build Strong Relationships

  • Develop positive partnerships with children, families, school personnel, and community members.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and staff.
  • Promote YMCA programs and encourage family engagement.

Keep Programs Running Smoothly

  • Maintain records, supplies, and program equipment.
  • Assist with site organization and daily operations.
  • Report concerns promptly and maintain a professional work environment.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should:

Be at least 18 years of age.
Meet Tennessee education and experience requirements for licensed school-age childcare.
Obtain CPR, First Aid, AED, and required Child Abuse Prevention certifications within required timeframes.
Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Be able to effectively work with children, families, staff, and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Support and uphold the YMCA mission and values.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 18 years of age
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date and Child Abuse Prevention training along with other safety trainings assigned within 10 days of hire date.
  • Completes a minimum of 20 hours per year of professional development training.
  • Documentation verifying that the staff person is physically, mentally and emotionally capable of safely and appropriately providing care for children in a group setting, within 10 days of employment or starting to work.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Occasionally lift/ and or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly required to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing with children and adults.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, sometimes sit on the floor.
  • Regularly required to hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and extreme heat. The noise level is usually moderate to loud.
  • · Maintain composure in stressful situations.

Pay: $11.57 per hour
