Job Description Summary:

The Division for Student Affairs ( DSA ) engages with students throughout all phases of the student lifecycle. DSA’s integrated approach is to provide a cohesive student experience built upon three core values: genuine collaboration, a comprehensive approach to problem-solving, and, most importantly, putting students at the center of all that we do.

Reporting to the Director of Orientation & Class Year Programs, the Student Program Associate ( SPA ) for Class Year Programs is responsible for supporting the vision, mission, goals, and priorities of the Division for Student Affairs. The SPA , in collaboration with the Director, will lead all Class Year Programs.

Class Year Programs

  • Manages, collaborating with the Assistant Director and Director in planning, implementing, assessing, and enhancing Class Year Programs for undergraduate students.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for all Class Year Programs (e.g., District Connections, Halfway to Graduation, Senior Week, Last First Day, Sophomore Week, etc.).
    • Manages all logistics for Class Year Programs, program planning, vendor communication, volunteer and facilitator recruitment, transportation, facilitation guides, program attendance, and survey data.
    • Coordinates space reservations for events.
    • Responsible for all program marketing and promotion of Class Year Programs, including communication, social media, branding, and website.
  • Writes and distributes the First Year Informer ( FYI ) Newsletter for all first-year students with timely information aiding in their transition to GW.
  • Selects, trains, and supervises Class Year Programs student staff in collaboration with the OCY team recruitment.
    • Facilitates weekly meetings, training sessions, and retreat(s).
  • Supports class-based transition programs throughout the year in collaboration with Orientation, Family Engagement, Campus Living, Residential Education, and University partners.
  • Advise Class Council and other student organizations as needed.
The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in admissions, orientation, student services, or higher education is preferred.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, including excellent written, public speaking, interpersonal, and customer engagement skills.
  • Demonstrate ability for leadership and to perform in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, including flexibility and adaptability.
  • Experience supervising students is desired.
  • Should be a self-starter with outstanding demonstrated initiative, including the ability to work independently on a daily basis.

Hiring Range $47,073.26 - $64,771.35
