Position Summary
The Director of Development & Marketing is responsible for leading and implementing comprehensive fundraising, donor relations, and marketing strategies to advance the mission of The GateHouse, a nonprofit dedicated to providing services for individuals and families impacted by substance use disorders. This role combines development leadership with strategic marketing to strengthen community engagement, build sustainable funding, and expand awareness of the organization’s programs and impact.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising & Development
- Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including annual giving, major gifts, corporate partnerships, foundation grants, events, and planned giving.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with donors, funders, and community partners.
- Manage the donor database (CRM), ensuring accurate records, timely acknowledgments, and donor stewardship.
- Research and prepare grant proposals and oversee reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors on donor engagement and fundraising initiatives.
- Develop metrics to measure fundraising success and provide regular reports to leadership and the board.
Marketing & Communications
- Create and implement an integrated marketing and communications plan to raise awareness of the organization’s mission, programs, and impact.
- Manage branding, public relations, social media, website, newsletters, and digital campaigns.
- Coordinate production of marketing materials, annual reports, and press releases.
- Represent the organization at community events, conferences, and with the media as appropriate.
- Oversee storytelling initiatives that highlight client success stories (with sensitivity to confidentiality and ethical standards).
Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise development/marketing staff, interns, and/or contractors as needed.
- Partner with program staff to identify stories, data, and outcomes to share with funders and the public.
- Support the Board of Directors in fundraising training and engagement.
- Ensure alignment of all fundraising and marketing efforts with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, business, or related field
- Minimum 2 years of progressive experience in nonprofit development and marketing, preferably in health, human services, or recovery-related organizations.
- Demonstrated success in major gifts, grant writing, and donor cultivation.
- Strong skills in communications, branding, and digital marketing.
- Knowledge of donor databases/CRMs and fundraising software.
- Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
- Passion for the mission of supporting individuals and families impacted by substance use disorder.
