Position Overview
The Controller plays a key leadership role in managing the company’s financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency.
This role reports directly to the CEO and oversees an Accounting Manager and a team of accounting professionals. It is a working manager role, requiring both leadership and hands-on involvement in accounting processes, including month-end close and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Oversee all accounting functions including AR, AP, general ledger, payroll oversight, and financial reporting
- Prepare and review financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes
- Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures
- Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to leadership
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare financial reports and present insights to executive leadership
- Conduct forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis
- Develop and monitor KPIs to drive business performance
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and mentor accounting staff, including direct and indirect reports
- Foster accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Provide training and guidance on financial processes and systems
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and financial reporting standards
- Manage external audit relationships and regulatory reporting
- Identify and mitigate financial risks
ESOP Administration & Financial Oversight
- Support administration of the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
- Coordinate valuations and analyze financial impact
- Communicate ESOP benefits and structure to employees
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and reporting
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or advanced degree preferred)
- Proven experience as a Controller or similar senior accounting leadership role
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial management best practices
- Experience in multi-location or mid-sized organizations preferred
- Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred, but not required)
- Strong leadership and team development experience
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred Experience
- Experience in distribution, manufacturing, or inventory-based environments
- Understanding of inventory costing and ERP systems
- Exposure to payroll auditing (payroll processing not required)
Work Environment
- 100% onsite in Springfield, OR (with flexibility)
- Monday–Friday schedule (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with flexibility)
