Position Overview

The Controller plays a key leadership role in managing the company’s financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency.

This role reports directly to the CEO and oversees an Accounting Manager and a team of accounting professionals. It is a working manager role, requiring both leadership and hands-on involvement in accounting processes, including month-end close and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

• Oversee all accounting functions including AR, AP, general ledger, payroll oversight, and financial reporting
• Prepare and review financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes
• Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures
• Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to leadership

Financial Reporting & Analysis

• Prepare financial reports and present insights to executive leadership
• Conduct forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis
• Develop and monitor KPIs to drive business performance

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead and mentor accounting staff, including direct and indirect reports
• Foster accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
• Provide training and guidance on financial processes and systems

Compliance & Risk Management

• Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and financial reporting standards
• Manage external audit relationships and regulatory reporting
• Identify and mitigate financial risks

ESOP Administration & Financial Oversight

• Support administration of the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
• Coordinate valuations and analyze financial impact
• Communicate ESOP benefits and structure to employees
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and reporting

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or advanced degree preferred)
• Proven experience as a Controller or similar senior accounting leadership role
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial management best practices
• Experience in multi-location or mid-sized organizations preferred
• Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred, but not required)
• Strong leadership and team development experience
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Preferred Experience

• Experience in distribution, manufacturing, or inventory-based environments
• Understanding of inventory costing and ERP systems
• Exposure to payroll auditing (payroll processing not required)

Work Environment

• 100% onsite in Springfield, OR (with flexibility)
• Monday–Friday schedule (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with flexibility)
• Business casual environment
