Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Spartanburg, SC Area

Type: Contract-to-Hire

Compensation: $38-$42/hr (Conversion target: $80,000-$85,000)

Overview

Our client, a growing industrial equipment manufacturer, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support increased project demand. This role focuses on the design and development of custom engineered equipment and fabricated assemblies used in industrial applications.

The ideal candidate will have experience designing machinery, structural assemblies, or custom equipment utilizing SolidWorks. This position works closely with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams to develop practical designs that are both manufacturable and cost-effective.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
• Create designs for fabricated and welded structures, mechanical assemblies, and equipment components.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, purchasing, suppliers, and project stakeholders to define requirements and resolve design challenges.
• Generate engineering documentation including bills of materials, drawings, and design revisions.
• Support production teams by troubleshooting design-related issues and implementing improvements.
• Participate in design reviews and ensure designs meet quality, safety, and manufacturing requirements.
• Assist in transitioning new designs from concept through production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
• Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Engineering Design Technology, or related field considered.
• Minimum 2 years of mechanical design experience with a BS degree, or equivalent industry experience.
• Strong proficiency with SolidWorks in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience designing machinery, custom equipment, industrial systems, or fabricated structures.
• Familiarity with weldments, sheet metal, fabricated assemblies, and mechanical components.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
