Job Purpose:
Manage project construction to ensure team member safety, high-quality work within budget, and on schedule. The superintendent takes full responsibility for constructing tanks in an efficient and safe manner through effective management of employees, materials, and equipment under his/her direction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Understand and implement modern safety practices and procedures while executing an effective jobsite safety program.
- Understand and implement effective scheduling methods.
- Instruct, train and commission employees to ensure safe compliance with proper material usage, approved construction methods, and operating procedures.
- Delegate responsibilities to subordinates while remaining accountable for their performance.
- Coordinate closely with the Project Manager and Area Manager on the project to ensure the project stays on schedule and within budget.
- Plan, organize, and conduct ongoing training sessions for employees such as toolbox talks and online training sessions.
- Maintain effective, cooperative, working relationships with general contractors, subcontractors, owners, engineers, etc.
- Must be able to execute tank construction in accordance with the plans to the most finite detail with 100% accuracy.
- Attend preconstruction meetings; prepare site for job start.
- Conduct daily inspections of the job to ensure job is on schedule, safe and all materials are in order.
- Maintain a clean, safe and secure jobsite during construction, including surrounding site areas, free of trash and debris.
- Submit all administrative paperwork accurately and timely to the appropriate department.
- Assign specific duties and resources to crew members, and monitor their performance, making adjustments where needed.
- Show competency in ability to handle shotcrete operations, including the equipment set-up, use of materials, assignment of personnel, and the daily planning requirements for the crew.
- Ensure that all company and OSHA safety rules and regulations are adhered to at all times. Take immediate action when deficiencies are discovered.
- Train a “second-in-command” to facilitate ongoing management of the project when it is necessary for the superintendent to be absent from the jobsite. This person must be able to effectively communicate, organize, and lead the entire crew.
- Use a computer and/or other electronic device with applications including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, eCapture, ADP, Microsoft Word, etc.
- Maintain current ACI Nozzleman certification.
- Serve as the competent person for all construction activities
- Manage all personnel activities including hiring, corrective actions, separations, transfers, promotions, etc. Communicate with Human Resources as needed.
- Maintain a high degree of integrity and honesty in all business dealings.
- Be self-motivated and solve problems effectively.
- Get along well with others and lead by example.
- Communicate well with vendors, product representatives, technicians, etc; know how to listen and record.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license
- Maintain all company safety and OSHA certifications (30 hour); Maintain ACI certification;.
- Must have 3-5 years of experience managing employees and or projects
- Must become a Certified ACI Nozzle man or Certified Tank builder. Or able to pass this exam in the next exam cycle.
- Must be approved by the two general superintendents and Director of field operations.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in complete shotcrete operations.
- The ability to solve arithmetic problems quickly and accurately.
- Must have the ability to work as a member of a team.
- Must have the ability and knowledge to use and maintain heavy construction equipment.
Working Conditions:
- Generally work 8 to 10 hour shifts, although longer shifts are very common; weekend and overtime work may be required.
- Employee may experience weather- related work stoppage at any time of the year.
- Employees are expected to move with the crew from one jobsite to the next jobsite, which may be outside of an employee’s resident state or country.
- Working with and around harmful materials, chemicals, fumes, odors, loud noise and/or dangerous machinery is generally to be expected.
