Job Purpose:
The Field Engineer (FE) supports superintendents and field teams in planning, coordinating and executing CROM’s projects safely, to the highest standard of quality and with purpose driven efficiency. The FE develops into a future field leader responsible for managing daily site operations. Under the guidance of an experienced superintendent, the FE learns to oversee crews, enforcing safety and quality, maintain productivity and support project schedule execution.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Field Leadership Development
- Shadow the superintendent to learn construction sequencing, workforce management and trade coordination
- Assist in leading daily huddles, toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Help plan daily/weekly work activities and resource needs.
- Participate in project coordination meetings and communicate field conditions or concerns promptly.
- Support field operations with layout verification, quality checks, and documentation.
Site Operations
- Monitor field work for productivity, quality and adherence to plans.
- Support coordination of subcontractors and craft labor.
- Perform construction layout, surveying and quantity measurements.
- Track material deliveries, equipment needs and site logistics.
- Assist with project cost tracking, forecasting, and billing support.
Safety and Quality
- Support enforcement of CROM’s safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct jobsite safety walks and document safety observations.
- Ensure teams follow company safety policies and specific project plans.
- Help with inspections and quality checks.
Documentation Management
- Assist with field logs, daily reports, manpower tracking and equipment usage.
- Help maintain updated drawings, schedules and lookahead plans.
- Maintain accurate and organized project files, drawings, and correspondence.
Professional Growth
- Participate in structured training, mentorship programs and field rotations.
- Build competency in communication, leadership, scheduling and technical knowledge
- Complete all crew advancement exams.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Construction Experience or Education in construction/engineering
- Strong desire to develop into a field leadership role.
- Ability to communicate clearly and work with diverse teams.
- Organized, proactive and safety focused.
- Valid Driver’s License, with a clean driving record and Insurance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a specialty contracting discipline.
- 30 Hour OSHA Certification
- Concrete industry experience.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Proficiency in Procore
- First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification.
Other Requirements:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Problem-solving orientation with willingness to learn technical trade skills.
- A hands-on training period will be required for the individual to become familiar with the construction of prestressed concrete tanks and the use of repair materials and methods utilized for infrastructure repair.
Working Conditions:
- Travel: This position will require that the Field Engineer travel and be field deployed.
- Assignment to Project Location by Director of Field Operations
- Mix of office and field work depending on project requirements.
- Extended work hours are required as necessary to meet project deadlines.
