Territory Manager / Outside Sales
HVAC Products Division | Reports to: Residential Sales Manager
Position Summary
The Territory Manager is responsible for growing Corken Steel Products Company's HVAC product sales within an assigned territory by identifying and meeting the equipment and material needs of HVAC contractors, mechanical contractors, and other trade customers. This role serves as the primary point of contact between the Company and its customers, promoting the full line of HVAC equipment and related products — including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ductwork and sheet metal, controls and thermostats, refrigerant, and indoor air quality products — while representing Corken's commitment to quality, service, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
• Sell the Company's full HVAC product line by growing sales of existing product categories with current accounts and introducing customers to additional lines carried by Corken (residential and commercial HVAC equipment, ductwork and sheet metal, controls, refrigerant, and related accessories).
• Develop new business by identifying, qualifying, and converting approved prospects — including HVAC contractors, mechanical contractors, and new-construction builders — that are not currently regular customers.
• Maintain a consistent, proactive call schedule across the assigned territory that produces measurable account growth, with particular attention to seasonal HVAC demand cycles (heating and cooling season ramp-up) and equipment changeover/replacement activity.
• Keep customers informed of new equipment introductions, manufacturer price changes, seasonal promotions, sales programs, and technical or code/refrigerant-regulation developments affecting HVAC products.
• Provide job-site and technical support as needed, including equipment selection, sizing guidance, and troubleshooting, to help customers complete HVAC installations and service calls efficiently and correctly.
• Coordinate with branch and warehouse staff to ensure accurate, on-time delivery of HVAC equipment and materials and to resolve order, inventory, or logistics issues.
• Deliver a consistently high standard of customer service, including prompt follow-up on quotes, orders, equipment claims, and manufacturer warranty questions.
• Uphold and support Company policies and standards as outlined in the employee handbook.
• Participate in ongoing personal and professional development, including manufacturer product training and Company-provided sales training programs, to maintain current knowledge of HVAC equipment, controls, and installation practices.
• Set and pursue short- and long-term sales goals in coordination with the Branch Manager or Sales Manager, adjusting territory strategy as market and seasonal conditions change.
• Achieve assigned annual base quotas and sales targets, with compensation determined in accordance with the Territory Manager incentive plan.
Qualifications
• Prior experience in outside sales, HVAC/mechanical distribution, or the HVAC installation and service trades preferred.
• Working knowledge of HVAC equipment, terminology, and installation practices, or the demonstrated ability to acquire this knowledge quickly.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build lasting relationships with contractors and trade customers.
• Self-motivated and able to manage an assigned territory with minimal daily supervision.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation; ability to travel throughout the assigned territory, including occasional job-site visits.
• Basic proficiency with order-entry systems, email, and mobile devices for call reporting and customer communication.
Working Conditions
This position requires regular travel throughout the assigned territory in a variety of weather conditions, occasional visits to active job sites and mechanical rooms, and the physical ability to review equipment and installations on site. Work hours may vary seasonally to align with heating and cooling season demand and customer project timelines.
