Position Summary

The Counter Sales role provides customer service and order support for contractors, vendors, walk-in customers, and phone customers at The Corken Steel Products Company. Reporting to the Branch Manager or Counter Manager, this role processes will call and delivery orders, supports special requests and warranty questions, provides product information, and follows up on quotes, backorders, and customer needs. The Counter Sales role supports the career-track expectation for HVAC & Roofing and requires computer familiarity while delivering responsive, accurate, and professional customer service.

Job Specific Competencies

HVAC/Roofing & Computer Familiarity - Working knowledge of Roofing, HVAC, and related products implemented by using company ERP/Order Entry systems.

Accuracy & Attention to Detail - Processes orders, quotes, credits, warranty items, and documentation carefully to reduce errors.

Productivity - Completes order & credit entry, follow-up, quote response, and customer support tasks in a timely manner.

Cooperation & Communication - Works effectively with counter teammates, warehouse staff, Branch Managers, sales, purchasing, and delivery teams.

Sense of Urgency - Responds promptly to customer needs, open orders, backorders, and special requests.

Results Orientation - Supports order accuracy, customer satisfaction, quote follow-up, lost sales tracking, and continuous improvement.

Position Responsibilities

-          Take and accurately process customer material requests received at the counter, by phone, digital communication, or through in-branch communications.

-          Enter and process will call and delivery orders accurately and in a timely manner.

-          Source, quote, and follow up on non-stock, special request, and customer-requested items.

-          Provide product quotations and general product information to customers upon request.

-          Communicate lead times, backorder status, product availability, and order updates to customers and internal teams.

-          Write up and process credits for returned materials according to company procedure.

-          Process warranty items in accordance with company warranty procedures.

-          Follow up on outstanding customer quotations and track lost sales as required.

-          Put away showroom and counter parts stock as needed and support an organized counter sales area.

-          Assist branch, warehouse, delivery, purchasing, and sales teams with customer order questions and product information.

-          Attend NEMEON, HARDI, product, vendor, and company-sponsored training to build product knowledge.

-          Maintain a helpful, courteous, responsive, and professional attitude in all customer and team interactions.

Qualifications

-          HVAC/Roofing & Computer familiarity aligned with Corken's experienced-team career track expectations.

-          Prior counter sales, inside sales, customer service, wholesale distribution, HVAC, roofing, or building materials experience preferred.

-          Working knowledge of HVAC, roofing, fabrication, or related products preferred; willingness to learn required.

-          Strong interpersonal and communication skills with comfort assisting customers in person, by phone, and through digital communications.

-          Basic proficiency with email, spreadsheets, ERP, distribution, order-entry, or customer service systems.

-          Accurate order entry, quotation, warranty, return, credit, and documentation skills

-          Ability to manage multiple customer requests in a fast-paced branch environment.

-          Dependable, punctual, team-oriented, and professional with a positive service attitude.

-          Corken, NEMEON, and HARDI courses or comparable product and vendor training preferred.

Experience

-          Counter sales, customer service, inside sales, wholesale distribution, HVAC, roofing, or building materials experience: 2-5 years preferred.

-          Experience using order-entry, ERP, distribution, or customer service systems preferred.

-          Entry-level candidates with customer service strength and ability to complete required on-the-job training may be considered.
