Job Overview

SPECON Systems, Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Drywall Estimator to join our Huntsville, Alabama team. This position is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive estimates for commercial drywall, metal framing, insulation, acoustical ceilings, and specialty interior projects.

We're looking for someone who brings more than technical estimating skills. The right candidate will be confident working directly with general contractors, developing strong business relationships, identifying bidding opportunities, and helping SPECON secure profitable projects.

This is primarily an office-based position with occasional jobsite visits for pre-bid measurements, field verification, and project coordination.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed material takeoffs, labor estimates, and competitive bids for commercial drywall, metal framing, insulation, acoustical ceilings, and specialty interior systems.
• Use On-Screen Takeoff (OST) and Quick Bid to develop accurate estimates and project pricing.
• Review architectural drawings, specifications, and contract documents to identify project scope, material requirements, and potential estimating risks.
• Communicate directly with general contractors to clarify project requirements, develop relationships, and improve opportunities to secure work.
• Proactively identify bidding opportunities and maintain relationships with existing and prospective customers.
• Evaluate material and labor costs to develop competitive estimates while protecting company profitability.
• Attend occasional pre-bid site visits to verify measurements, existing conditions, and project requirements.
• Work with project managers to ensure accurate handoffs after projects are awarded.
• Maintain organized estimating records, bid documentation, and historical pricing information.
• Collaborate with other estimators and provide guidance to less experienced team members when needed.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience estimating commercial drywall, metal framing, and acoustical ceiling projects.
• Proficiency with On-Screen Takeoff (OST) and Quick Bid estimating software.
• Strong ability to read and interpret commercial blueprints, architectural drawings, and project specifications.
• Working knowledge of commercial construction materials, installation methods, labor costs, and estimating practices.
• Ability to independently prepare accurate estimates and manage multiple bidding deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with general contractors and customers.
• Organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working as part of a collaborative team.
• Ability to work onsite at the Huntsville office.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• 10 years of commercial drywall or specialty interiors estimating experience.
• Established relationships with general contractors or knowledge of the North Alabama commercial construction market.
• Experience estimating both new construction and renovation projects.
• Ability and willingness to mentor junior estimators.
• Previous hands-on construction or field experience is beneficial but not required.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
